Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, General Labor, Building Maintenance
Purpose and Scope
This position is responsible for repairing office furniture and equipment (e.g. staplers, file cabinets, cubicle set‑ups and repair, locksmith services i.e. make keys, repairs locks on cabinets and locking mechanisms). Other duties include loading and unloading trucks, moving pallets, lifting boxes, moving carts with mail and other items. Driving a small truck and/or van to other local sites to work; and occasionally making deliveries and pick‑ups at the Post Office.
EssentialResponsibilities
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required. Two (2) years of job‑related experience including basic computer operations skills is required. Must be able to process routine reports, and must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and be able to operate a government general‑purpose vehicle.
Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental DemandsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or fee; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and extreme heat. The employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions;
extreme cold; and risk of electrical shock. Questioning nonstandard operations or environmental factors that may involve unmitigated hazards and providing feedback to supervisors and managers on all safety issues. Position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance. Position may require travel.
