Title: District Groundskeeper I

Reports To: Assistant Director of Maintenance & Facilities

Takes Direction From: Asst. Director of Maintenance & Facilities, Director of Facilities and Operations, and Facility Supervisor

Schedule/Calendar: 8 hours/day 40 hours/week 261 days/year

Summary: The District Groundskeeper I is responsible for the maintenance and repair of grounds, athletic fields, lawns, and playgrounds, etc.

• Maintains the district grounds, including seeding, planting, watering, fertilizing, mowing, trimming, weeding, edging, dragging, leveling, rolling, etc
• Maintains the layout, design, lining, installation, and preparation of athletic fields for contests, games, practices, and any assigned events.
• Prepares and maintains athletic equipment used by participants, coaches, officials, and spectators
• Patches potholes and asphalt repairs, including traffic lining.
• Cleans parking lots and removes trash.
• Maintains, grooms, and repairs artificial and natural turf surfaces.
• Snow and ice removal as required.
• Installs, repairs, and stores snow, athletic, and ornamental fencing.
• Picks up, receives, transports, and distributes groundskeeping and facilities-related materials and equipment as needed
• Receives, distributes, and stores groundskeeping-related equipment and materials, including tools, machines, bagged salt, solar salt, chemicals, additives, seed, fertilizer, bulk materials, and plantings.
• Performs minor repairs, replacements, and preventative maintenance on groundskeeping equipment
• Performs other services or functions related to the maintenance of district buildings, grounds, equipment, and supplies as directed by Supervisor.

• High School Diploma or GED preferred
• Valid PA driver's license required.
• Certified pesticide applicator certification is required.
• CDL Class B/A preferred.
• Must possess or be willing to obtain an IPM license for the following categories:
  Core, 7, 24. Must be obtained within 6 months of hire date.

• Groundskeeping experience required.
• Grounds equipment operation experience preferred.

• Must know the dimensional requirements of athletic fields and the PIAA regulations for layout.
• Mowing, seeding, fertilizing, weeding, pruning shrubs, and controlling pests or plant diseases.
• Playground safety protocols.

• Proficiency in operating and maintaining motorized equipment such as commercial mowers, tractors, edgers, aerators, weed whips, snow blowers, and hand and power tools, while adhering to safety practices.
• Attention to detail.
• Good written and verbal communication skills in English.

• Identify and prescribe treatment for weed, insect, fungal, and parasitic infections in natural grass and ornamental shrubbery.
• Understand and follow simple written or verbal instructions.
• Read and implement field layout diagrams and instructions
• Read and follow equipment operation and maintenance instructions
• Read blueprints/plot plans and dimensional drawings or schematics
• Work standing/walking for long periods of time
• Work independently with minimal supervision.
• Lift, push, pull, twist, stand, raise arms above shoulders, stoop to the ground, and climb ladders and stairs.
• Work in noisy or dusty environments, inside and outside, and in extreme weather conditions
