The Special Education Teacher is a full‑time, on‑site role located in Lansing, IL. This educator designs and delivers individualized and small‑group instruction to students with disabilities, ensuring that lessons align with IEP goals and state standards. Daily responsibilities include adapting curriculum and materials, implementing accommodations and modifications, and using differentiated instructional strategies to support a range of learning needs. The role involves collaborating with general education teachers, related service providers, and support staff to promote inclusive practices and consistent progress monitoring.
The Special Education Teacher also conducts ongoing assessments, maintains accurate documentation, communicates regularly with families and guardians, and participates in IEP meetings, professional development, and school‑wide initiatives.
- Expertise in Special Education and disabilities, including understanding of IEP development, accommodations, and behavior support strategies.
- Strong teaching skills with experience in middle school instruction and familiarity with age‑appropriate curriculum and classroom management.
- Effective communication skills for collaborating with students, families, colleagues, and multidisciplinary teams.
- State‑appropriate teaching license or certification in Special Education (or eligibility to obtain), with appropriate endorsements for the assigned grade levels.
- Ability to use data to inform instruction, track progress, and adjust interventions as needed.
- Proficiency with educational technology and digital tools to support instruction and accessibility.
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive teaching practices.
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field required; master’s degree or additional specialized training is preferred.
