Position Summary

Reports to:

Principal and/or Designee.

Qualifications
  • Must hold a current Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) or Educator License with Stipulations (ELS) with a teaching endorsement in a secondary content area.
  • Learning Behavior Specialist (LBSI) endorsement is required to facilitate the program serving only students with individualized education plans (IEP).
  • Experience using digital learning platforms preferred.
  • Experience working with students who were unsuccessful in a traditional educational setting preferred.
  • Bilingual (English‑Spanish) preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Enroll students in appropriate grade‑level curriculum using the district's digital learning platform.
  • Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  • Guide the learning process and support students' successful completion of courses.
  • Assess the accomplishment of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
  • Collect data and prepare course completion reports and other reports as requested by administration.
  • Initiate contact with parents/guardians regularly and respond promptly, constructively and professionally to parent‑initiated contacts/concerns.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.
  • Establish a set of classroom behavioral expectations based on clearly defined goals or principles.
  • Prepare for virtual programming and provide written evidence of preparation upon request of the administration.
  • Communicate regularly with members of the Pupil Personnel Services Department.
  • Work cooperatively with other school personnel to support students with identified needs and to support diverse learners.
  • Meet and facilitate the program in the locations and at the times designated.
  • Supervise students outside of the classroom during passing periods.
  • Prepare students for standardized tests required by the state.
  • Attend all staff meetings and/or professional development sessions as allowed by contract.
  • Adhere to the published policies and procedures of the District.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
  • Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
  • Assist the administration in selecting resources, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Perform any other related duties as requested by building administration.
Essential Skills and Experience
  • Ability to use digital learning platforms.
  • Knowledge of best practices with an emphasis on engaging students in an asynchronous, virtual environment.
  • Ability to maintain a professional decorum when dealing with behavioral problems.
  • Knowledge of appropriate behavioral strategies when interacting with students.
  • Experience in and knowledge of goal setting, self‑reflection, and post‑secondary opportunities.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Terms of Employment
  • Ten‑month work year (180 days).
  • Starting annual salary between $59,158 and $97,829 depending upon education and verified teaching experience.
  • Teachers Retirement System of Illinois (TRS) pension.
  • 55 minute duty‑free lunch (40 minutes on Wednesdays).
  • 10 sick days and 5 personal days for new hires.
  • Generous fringe benefits as provided by the current AFT/IFT Local 683 Agreement.
  • Performance evaluation based on criteria as defined in the AFT/IFT Local 683 Agreement and the Licensed Staff Evaluation Procedures.
