Position: Home Loan Officer

Job Summary

The Home Loan Officer serves as a key point of contact for prospective borrowers, guiding them through the mortgage application process. Responsibilities include conducting comprehensive interviews with applicants to assess financial needs and goals, explaining available loan programs and eligibility requirements, and gathering all necessary financial documentation. The role involves an initial analysis of the applicant’s financial profile to determine qualification standards and providing informed recommendations on suitable loan products.

Strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering a positive and compliant borrower experience are essential.

Work Location

Hybrid work arrangement: onsite at the branch 2–3 days per week. Open to all areas with branches within Michigan and Northern Illinois.

Weekly Schedule
  • Monday – Friday: 8:30 am – 5:00 pm ET
  • Saturday Rotation (approximately every 4 weeks): 9:00 am – 1:00 pm ET
Compensation & Benefits
  • Salary:
    • Level I: $21.00 – $26.00+ per hour, dependent on experience
    • Level II: $27.00 – $32.00+ per hour, dependent on experience
    • Senior Level: $33.00 – $40.00+ per hour, dependent on experience
    • No commissions or sales incentives (not for profit)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Home Loan Officer I
    • Ensure phone coverage and stay available during business hours.
    • Originate home equity applications through thorough interviews.
    • Assist members with mortgage products with support from senior officers.
    • Communicate application status to members and document in the system.
    • Maintain regular communication with staff and management regarding application issues.
    • Respond to e‑messages, phone messages, and emails by the end of the day.
    • Help peers maximize loan closings and achieve origination goals.
    • Identify and market products and services, provide financial education, and achieve goals.
    • Resolve complaints or errors up to $150.00 authorized to improve member experience.
    • Make lending decisions within approval limits or recommend pre‑approval/denial for underwriter review.
    • Adhere to policies and procedures to ensure compliance and risk management.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Home Loan Officer II
    • Originate mortgage and home equity applications with thorough interviews.
    • Inform members of status and keep third parties, including realtors, updated.
    • Attend networking events with realtors, builders, and financial planners.
    • Communicate problems, concerns, and opportunities to leads or management.
    • Pre‑approve applications within lending limits independently and recommend for underwriting.
  • Senior Home Loan Officer
    • Mentor new officers.
    • Maintain networks with realtors, builders, and other referral sources.
    • Create and maintain a vast referral network contributing to monthly business.
    • Resolve complaints or errors up to $300.00 authorized for member satisfaction.
    • Pre‑approve or deny applications independently within approval limits when appropriate.
Job Requirements
  • Levels I and II
    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • College courses in real estate or finance preferred.
    • Consumer lending background required; home lending experience preferred.
    • Knowledge of state and federal lending regulations (Truth‑in‑Lending Act, ECA, FCRA, FDCPA, Fair Housing Act, etc.).
    • NMLS number required per federal regulations.
    • Fannie Mae secondary market eligibility required.
  • Senior Level
    • Extensive mortgage lending experience, including decision‑making authority.
