Location: Simonds Elementary
Work Schedule: 6:00 am – 2:30 pm (overtime expected)
Pay Rate: $19.90 – $24.13 DOQ
The Lead Maintenance and Custodian is responsible for supporting the daily operation, cleanliness, safety, and overall condition of the school building and grounds. This position performs routine custodial, maintenance, and minor repair duties while also providing daily direction and support to custodial staff assigned to the building. The Lead Maintenance and Custodian works closely with building administration and the Maintenance, Operations, and Transportation Department (MOT) to ensure the school is clean, safe, welcoming, and properly maintained for students, staff, families, and visitors.
This position also assists with building inspections, event setup, work order coordination, supply management, snow removal support, and identifying maintenance needs in a timely and professional manner.
- Plan, organize, prioritize, and schedule daily custodial and building maintenance services at Lessenger Elementary, including routine cleaning, preventative maintenance, minor repairs, facility preparation, and other assigned tasks necessary to maintain a safe, clean, and efficient school environment.
- Provide leadership, direction, and support to assigned custodial staff; assist with daily work, monitor building needs, promote accountability, and ensure custodial and maintenance tasks are completed in a timely and satisfactory manner.
- Assist Lessenger Elementary staff with the safe and orderly arrival and dismissal of students, including support with building access, exterior monitoring, traffic flow assistance, and general student safety as directed by building administration.
- Monitor inventory levels of maintenance, instructional, custodial, and building supplies; order, receive, store, organize, and distribute supplies and materials as directed; maintain appropriate records and communicate supply needs in a timely manner.
- Communicate regularly with building administration, district maintenance staff, custodial staff, contractors, vendors, and other personnel regarding building needs, work orders, safety concerns, event setup, cleaning schedules, maintenance issues, and operational priorities.
- Maintain a positive, professional, and service‑oriented working relationship with students, staff, administrators, families, vendors, contractors, and community members using the facility.
- Lead and participate in the daily cleaning, disinfecting, and sanitizing of classrooms, restrooms, offices, hallways, cafeterias, gymnasiums, staff areas, storage areas, entrances, and other assigned areas of the school building.
- Clean and disinfect drinking fountains, sinks, toilets, urinals, partitions, mirrors, tile, counters, fixtures, and other restroom surfaces; restock soap, paper towel, toilet paper, sanitizer, and other dispensers as needed.
- Dust, clean, and polish furniture, woodwork, counters, shelving, doors, windows, glass surfaces, and other fixtures; empty waste and recycling receptacles; remove gum, debris, spills, graffiti, and other hazards as needed.
- Sweep, scrub, mop, strip, wax, buff, and polish floors; vacuum rugs and carpets in classrooms, offices, hallways, and other work areas; spot clean, extract, and shampoo carpets as assigned.
- Pick up paper, trash, and debris from school grounds, playgrounds, walkways, parking areas, entrances, and areas adjacent to school facilities; sweep sidewalks and concrete surfaces around the building as needed.
- Operate and maintain custodial equipment including vacuums, wet/dry vacuums, auto scrubbers, buffers, carpet extractors, steam cleaners, mops, ladders, small hand tools, power tools, and other equipment as assigned.
- Coordinate and assist with facility use by school groups, community organizations, and outside groups; prepare spaces for meetings, programs, assemblies, elections, athletic events, after‑school activities, and other special events.
