Position: Laborer, (A262799-3), 202, Public Works Bond Funded

Assists skilled laborers and crew members with street maintenance, electrical and plumbing work, and other maintenance and repairs for the City.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Performs routine manual labor involved in the maintenance of the City creeks, street paving and street maintenance activities, and electrical and plumbing work.
  • Assists with traffic control and direction.
  • Cleans roads by picking up debris and tree limbs; maintains storm sewers and sidewalks; assists in repairing and cleaning storm drains.
  • Performs ground maintenance using weed eater, yard tools, and gas mower; cleans and maintains creeks and road passageways; maintains storm sewers and sidewalks.
  • Assists in the maintenance and repair of HVAC units.
  • Cleans and maintains proper functionality of tools and equipment.
  • Performs related work as required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • At least eighteen (18) years of age.
REQUIRED LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS
  • Valid Texas Driver License. If applicant holds an out-of-state license, a State of Texas Driver License must be obtained within six months of employment.

As part of the minimum requirements for all positions with the City of Laredo, a thorough background check and certified school transcripts will be required from all applicants who are offered employment.

Effective February 24, 1997, all selected applicants are required to undergo a drug and alcohol test prior to employment.

Effective January 7, 2008, all persons in safety-sensitive functions/positions, as per City of Laredo Drug and Alcohol Policy definition, shall be subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
