Job Description
Reads water meters at residential and business locations, completes daily work orders for connections and disconnections, diagnoses, repairs, and maintains water meters to ensure functionality.
Essential Functions & Job Competencies- Conduct meter readings, manually and/or with an integrated register.
- Maintain water meter operations by diagnosing and repairing as needed.
- Fulfill work orders, including connections and disconnections of service.
- Drive a City vehicle for City business use.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of E-Coder R900i.
- Knowledge of water meter operation.
- Skill in customer service delivery.
- Skill in organization and time management.
- Skill in performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature.
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to maintain good planning and organizational skills.
- Ability to take and follow directions from a supervisor.
- Ability to give directions to and gain compliance from assigned staff.
- Ability to perform strenuous work and routine work.
- Ability to maintain a valid Texas Driver License and a good driving record.
- Ability to project a positive and professional image of the City of Laredo.
- Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing in English and orally in Spanish.
- Ability to comply with all City of Laredo policies and procedures.
- Ability to maintain good health and physical condition sufficient to permit full performance of duties.
Exposure and work environments include office, indoor environments, confined spaces, vehicles, warehouse, outdoor, street near moving traffic, construction sites. Work may involve lifting up to 10–35 pounds occasionally or frequently and requires walking, standing, and occasional sedentary work. Environmental exposures may include cold, heat, loud noises, fumes, chemicals, and traffic hazards.
Travel RequirementsLocal travel is required; regional, national, or international travel is not expected.
Minimum Qualifications- At least three (3) months of general experience.
- Valid Texas Driver License (out-of-state license must be converted within 6 months).
As part of the minimum requirements for all positions with the City of Laredo, a thorough background check and certified school transcripts will be required from all applicants who are offered employment.
Effective February 24, 1997, all selected applicants are required to undergo a drug and alcohol test prior to employment.
Effective January 7, 2008, all persons in safety-sensitive functions/positions shall be subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
