Overview

Job DescriptionPURPOSE SUMMARY. Performs field inspections to identify deficiencies in flood control infrastructure and conducts routine maintenance using Flood Commission equipment. Ensures proper facility operation while maintaining structural integrity and functionality.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES.
- Review and complete semi-annual dam inspection forms for deficiencies or required actions.
- Mowing of vegetation inside the pooling area utilizing light equipment.
- Removal of trash & invasive vegetative species including loading and hauling of waste material to proper disposal facility.
- Restoration of structure design capacity via removal, relocation, stockpile or general management of foreign sediment.
- Remove debris and sediment from ponds, channels and swales caused by storm runoff.
- Back fills rill and gully erosion and side slopes.
- Operate light to medium duty equipment to repair and maintain facility infrastructure in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures.
- Transport light to medium mobile equipment and materials to and from the project site.
- Use skid steer and associated attachments to dig holes for installation of weather systems.
- Site preparation using light equipment for planned infrastructure.
- Maintenance and repair of weather station site grounds.
- Attend and participate in training/educational opportunities about what kind of equipment the department utilizes, how it's used, capacity/limitations of equipment, and applicable uses.
- Obtain training and practice how to equip vehicles with maintenance equipment, how to maintain equipment and policy/procedure for how to service equipment.
- Participate in trainings and attend inspections to learn how to properly inspect a dam, and how to maintain a structure without causing damage, or violating regulatory requirements.
- Review and abide by department SOPs for on-site safety requirements and mitigation of occupational hazards.
- Apply herbicide to embankments and side slopes to reduce spread of noxious plant species with invasive root systems.
- Apply pesticides on flood control dams to prevent burrowing animals from compromising the structural integrity of the structure.
- Formulate, procure, handle and apply herbicides and pesticides utilizing appropriate materials and methods.
- Follow and enforce environmental, agricultural, and pesticide related codes and policies pertaining to the use of any chemical substance.
- Utilize existing documentation, extract information from as built drawings to perform restorative maintenance work back to the design condition.
- Utilize field markings including lath, construction staking, signage and surveying limits for direction and/or plan conformance.
- Verify completed or in progress work to ensure plan conformance.
- Ensure adherence to any on site hazards, obstructions, utilities, and areas to be avoided through survey markings.
- Load transport trailer and associated equipment to the project site.
