Position: SENIOR CUSTODIAN

About the Position

The Clark County Department of Real Property Management is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Senior Custodian position. This role involves a full range of custodial duties while providing day‑to‑day guidance and training to a small custodial team. The employee supports clean, safe, and well‑maintained County facilities, working in both staff‑occupied and public areas. The ideal candidate has custodial experience, understands proper cleaning and safety practices, and can communicate effectively while directing others.

The position ensures proper use of equipment, reports maintenance needs, and helps maintain smooth daily operations.

Minimum Requirements

Education and Experience:

Two (2) years of full‑time experience in janitorial or custodial work. All qualifying education and each experience must be clearly documented in the application’s Education and Work Experience sections. Do not substitute a resume for the application or write "see attached resume" on the application; all details must be written in your own words and cannot be copied from job descriptions or other external sources.

Licensing and Certification:
Specified positions may require possession of a valid Nevada Class C driver’s license at time of appointment.

Working Conditions:

Work may include extended shifts or be called back in emergency situations. Evening, night, weekend, and holiday shifts may be required, depending on the department assigned.

Background Investigation:
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation, which may occur periodically after employment.

Citizenship:
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Clark County does not provide H1B visa sponsor ships or transfers for any employment positions.

Medical Examination:
Employment is contingent upon the results of a physical examination performed by an examining physician.

Pre‑Employment Drug Testing:
Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre‑employment drug examination.

Examples of Duties
  • Provides lead direction, training and work review to a work crew of County staff and/or community service workers; organizes and assigns work, sets priorities, and follows up to ensure completion of assigned work; trains staff in work procedures.
  • Sweeps, mops, scrubs, and polishes floors; sweeps, vacuums and spot‑clean carpeted areas.
  • Dusts and polishes furniture and woodwork; dusts counters, windowsills, window blinds and similar fixtures.
  • Empties, cleans and lines waste receptacles and disposes of trash.
  • Washes doors, windows, walls, ceilings, window blinds and furniture; polishes metalwork; cleans lighting fixtures.
  • Cleans and disinfects restrooms; restocks restroom supplies as necessary.
  • Strips, seals and buffs floors.
  • Closes windows, turns off lights, and locks doors to secure buildings.
  • Reports the need for maintenance or repair of facilities to the appropriate supervisor; corrects or reports any fire or safety hazards and places barriers in public areas.
  • Maintains equipment, materials and supplies in proper condition.
  • Observes safe working practices, including maintaining storage areas in a safe condition.
  • Follows label instructions to mix and dilute cleansers, disinfectants and stripping agents to ensure proper strength for use.
  • Answers questions and provides standard information to the public if working in a public facility.
  • Reports unauthorized persons and other security problems.
  • Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.
  • Keeps basic records of work performed, timesheets, etc.
  • May set up meeting rooms and rearrange furniture.
  • May drive a County motor vehicle or be able to arrange for transportation to specified work sites.
Physical Demands

Mobility to perform custodial and related work, including operating hand and power equipment; stamina to stand and walk for extended periods of time; strength to lift and maneuver materials and equipment weighing up to 70 pounds with proper equipment; vision to read printed materials; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. Accommodation may be made for some of these physical demands for otherwise qualified individuals who require and request such accommodation.
