Position Summary
Perform custodial floor care duties within the UMC facility, including cleaning, polishing, and burnishing floors and shampooing carpets throughout the unit. Apply chemicals such as carpet shampoo, floor stripper, sealer and finish to maintain the appearance of floors and carpets.

Equivalence to high school graduation and six (6) months of custodial floor care experience.
- 1 year recent documented EVS experience in a hospital/acute care setting.
- 1 year recent documented EVS experience in the hotel industry.
- 1 year recent documented experience as a floor technician.
- Availability to work all shifts, including graveyard, seven days a week, as needed.
- Availability to work 10‑hour shifts.
Proper techniques for cleaning, stripping, scrubbing and refinishing floors, baseboards and carpets; proper use, care and maintenance of floor care equipment and chemicals to achieve maximum effectiveness and minimum maintenance. English language and reading skills for identifying hazard classifications and reading chemical instructions. Experience in shampoo and extraction of carpet and upholstery stains. Knowledge of department and hospital safety practices, patient rights, age‑specific patient care practices, infection control policies, handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials, and emergency response policies and procedures.
Skill in safe operation of floor care equipment such as carpet extractors, side‑by‑side shampooer, ride‑on/walk‑behind autoscrubber, walk‑behind burnisher, and side‑by‑side scrubber for stripping, scrubbing and refinishing floors and baseboards. Ability to apply floor care chemicals in accordance with prescribed standards. Proficiency with standard body mechanics and proper lifting techniques for moving large furniture, boxes and equipment. Ability to work without close supervision and to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people from diverse socio‑economic and ethnic backgrounds.
Capability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties.
Mobility to work in a typical clinical setting and use standard floor care equipment. Ability to operate hand and power equipment. Stamina to remain standing and walking for extended periods. Strength to lift and maneuver objects and hearing and speech to communicate effectively in person and over the telephone. Strength and agility to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
