Custodian – Facilities Maintenance Office (Part‑time)

Saint Vincent College seeks applications for a Custodian in the Facilities Maintenance Office. This part‑time position does not include any additional benefits. Under general supervision, the incumbent performs custodial and maintenance duties such as dusting, mopping, finishing and buffing floors, vacuuming and shampooing carpets, cleaning restrooms and showers, and identifying needed repairs to report in written form to the supervisor. In the event of emergencies the custodian must call immediately.

The role requires cooperation with a diverse group of department heads, including the Archabbot, Prior, faculty department heads, students, tradesmen, outside contractors, vendors, and other custodians.

• Use custodial supplies and modern cleaning equipment, moving and lifting furniture as needed.
• Follow a well‑established routine to achieve cleanliness standards.
• Wash, wax, dust, vacuum and polish floors, furniture, and fixtures; clean lavatories and replace supplies; empty trash bins and follow the recycling program.
• Shovel snow, sweep, and clean walkways; assist in keeping outside premises and building entrances safe and orderly.
• Clean all horizontal and vertical surfaces, including glass, walls, ceilings, and light fixtures; work at elevated heights.
• Secure buildings and doors when not in use.
• Follow instructions regarding chemical use and safety hazards while performing daily duties.
• Replace light bulbs as required, using a ladder if necessary; report needed repairs to the supervisor.
• Move furniture and equipment to support events, classes, and meetings.
• Perform related work as required; learn the materials, methods, and practices used in custodial work.
• Operate and maintain vacuum cleaners, scrubbing machines, polishing machines, and other janitorial equipment.
• Create lists of supplies necessary for the assigned area.
• Provide coverage in different areas to accommodate absenteeism.
• Understand and follow simple oral and written instructions.
• Exercise care when using cleaning materials on different types of building surfaces.
• Work effectively with others.
• Operate from a ladder to change light bulbs, clean windows, and dust.
• Lift, pull, and push objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

High School Diploma or GED.

No experience required, but a background in custodial work is preferred.

Background checks will be performed on all new hires. Employment is conditional upon satisfactory background checks and clearances.
