Position: Climbing Wall Route Setter - Student Hourly

Position Overview

Route Setters are members of the Outdoor Pursuits (ODP) program who work at the Ambler Student Recreation Fitness Center’s “Chalk Rock” Climbing Wall. In collaboration with the ODP Program Manager and/or the Assistant Director of Outdoor Pursuits, Route Setters are responsible for fully resetting routes on the 42 foot roped wall and the bouldering wall two to three times per year.

Applicants should possess intermediate to advanced rock climbing skills. Experience or knowledge in wall maintenance, route setting, and the ability to learn and design safe, engaging, and appropriately challenging climbing routes are essential.

Route Setters do not set routes while the wall is open to climbers. As a result, the position offers flexible scheduling, with work taking place only when the wall is closed. Staff members must be accountable, manage their time effectively, and complete all assigned work within the designated timeframe.
