Summary
The City of Lawrence Municipal Services & Operations Department is a full-service, front-line operational department. The department provides community services in infrastructure and maintenance (facilities & structures, street and storm-water maintenance, pavement management, water treatment and distribution, wastewater collection and treatment), engineering (engineering design and technical support, stormwater, utility and traffic engineering), services (solid waste, water, wastewater, fleet management, and administrative functions).

The Solid Waste Loader is responsible for the collection, recycling, and disposal of commercial and residential solid waste (trash, recycling, and yard waste). This position will perform routine manual heavy labor tasks in the collection, recycling, and disposal of commercial and residential solid waste. The position is responsible for performing such tasks in an efficient, safe, and timely manner, and provides cleanup and routine maintenance of the division’s equipment.
QualificationsRequires the ability to work holiday shifts and Saturday shifts as scheduled. Experience in physically demanding labor in the outdoor environment is highly desired. Must have the ability to lift and carry heavy objects weighing up to 80 pounds constantly throughout the workday and have the ability to withstand exposure to extreme and variable weather conditions. Requires the ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
This position requires an appropriate valid Driver's License. The successful candidate must pass the background check and post-offer City physical and drug screen. Primary work schedule will be Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM, or 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Work may begin as early as 5:00 AM and as late as 5:00 PM, with some overtime, Saturdays, and holidays required.
