Company Description Commonwealth Land Trust (CLT) is a Massachusetts-based nonprofit organization that provides affordable housing and on-site supportive services. The organization acquires, develops, and manages properties to create stable homes for people experiencing chronic homelessness. By linking housing with social services, CLT works to prevent homelessness, support residents in rebuilding their lives, and strengthen local neighborhoods. Over more than 35 years, CLT has expanded to 350 units of affordable housing across 20 properties, serving approximately 650 residents in Greater Boston and other Massachusetts communities.

Schedule:
Monday - Friday & on-call
- Prior experience and knowledge of general building maintenance/repair methods
- Knowledge of safe work methods – essential
- Ability to lift and move at least 75 pounds, and such items as furniture, appliances, equipment, etc. appropriately
- Ability to climb multiple flights of stairs
- Attention to detail, ability to maintain focus and a serious work ethic
- Own transportation & valid driver's license with good record
- Ability to read & write English
- Ability to work well independently as well as with a team that includes agency staff from social services, housing management, maintenance, finance, and administration, as well as outside service providers, government agencies and community groups
- Ability to work comfortably with people of varying racial/ethnic backgrounds, sexual orientations, language and socio-economic differences
- Comfort working with populations similar to those we serve, including the chronically homeless, people with HIV/AIDS or Hepatitis C, people living with drug and alcohol addiction, and people living with mental illness
- Repairs and installs door and mailbox locks
- Buffs/screens wood floors and reseals as requested by Maintenance Supervisor
- Caulks/re-grout tub tiles
- Paints unit walls/trim and common areas every 5 years or as necessary
- Repairs/refinishes/replaces kitchen cabinets
- Moves furniture, appliances, etc. with appropriate assistance
- Routine Repairs/Maintenance:
- General carpentry repairs
- Replaces thermocouples, circulator pumps, zone valves on boiler units
- Replaces air filters for forced hot air heat
- Repairs/replaces forced hot water baseboard heating
- Clears minor tub or sink drains
- Repairs plumbing drain and supply lines
- Replaces wood stair treads & balustrades
- Window replacement
- Minor roof repairs
- Reports maintenance & repair needs not reflected on work orders to Supervisor
- Reports unsafe conditions to Supervisor
- Keeps walkways clear of snow & ice
- Keeps yards clear of excessive brush and/or debris
- Takes trash to appropriate location on designated pick-up dates
- Checks and adjusts common area light timers
- Prepares units for housing authority & city inspections
- Attends unit, department and agency meetings as required
- Participates in continuing education
- Other duties as may be assigned from time to time by Supervisor
- Responds to emergencies; 24/7 availability by cell phone
