About the RoleThe Field Service Technician reports to the Project Manager and plays a key role in completing service orders such as delivering notices, finding meters, reading meters, and other tasks necessary for the utility billing department. This position requires a high degree of driving, excellent time management, and exceptional day-to-day flexibility.
Salary Transparency: $17/hour.
Location: Must live within 20 miles of Lawrenceville.
- Meter maintenance: remove inactive meters, locate curb valves, discontinue services, and conduct safety inspections including gas leak detection or theft investigations.
- Complete assigned duties in the required time frame for cycle readings and assign sequence numbers to new services.
- Rearrange meter-reading routes as necessary.
- Read meters daily and/or on a special basis, typically on a customer's premises for service bills.
- Evaluate unsafe conditions, possibly cleaning out meter boxes.
- Use electric, gas, and water meter-reading devices and printed materials such as service orders, maps, manuals, and computer printouts.
- Walk and stand extensively during the workday, covering long distances (up to 20 miles per day) in various weather conditions (rain, sleet, hail, snow, extreme heat or cold).
- Exert physical force moving objects routinely up to 10 lbs, occasionally up to 50 lbs.
- Communicate with customers: refer complaints to appropriate authorities, provide general information about meter services, and use telephones, tablets, or computers to communicate.
- Other duties as assigned.
Must haves:
- Some high school education or higher; must be 18 years of age or older.
- 1 year experience working in outdoor conditions.
- Valid driver's license.
Nice to haves:
- High school diploma or GED.
- 1 year experience in meter reading.
