Perform or supervise unskilled to semi-skilled manual labor and general repair duties, or assist craft personnel in custodial, housekeeping, grounds maintenance or building trades. Involves routine tasks such as manual labor and assisting skilled trades and craft workers in completing skilled tasks or projects.
Essential Functions- Landscape, plant, trim and maintain flower beds, bushes, hedges, shrubs and trees.
- Cut grass, weed-eating, edge and water lawns.
- Maintain entryways, sidewalks and grounds by washing windows, sweeping sidewalks, picking up trash, cleaning mats, emptying trash cans.
- Clean culverts, drains and ditches; repair water and sewer lines.
- Clean when directed by supervisor by sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, emptying trash and cleaning restrooms.
- Remove snow from sidewalks and parking lots, spread salt during icy conditions.
- Assist with various work projects including carpentry, electrical, mechanical, plumbing and painting work.
- Assist with regular preventative maintenance on building systems (changing filters, belts, coils, flush valves, bulbs, ballasts).
- Respond to work orders promptly, and submit properly completed work orders in accordance with OKDE‑FMB policy.
- Move furniture and equipment; mount bulletin boards and wall hangings.
- Load and unload materials, supplies and equipment.
- Maintain accurate inventory of supplies and equipment, complete logs and reports.
- Develop understanding of customer needs, communicate effectively, keep others informed.
- Inspect buildings and grounds for improvement opportunities.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of tools, equipment, methods and practices of general building and mechanical trades.
- Ability to follow simple oral instructions and use hand tools and high-speed power tools.
- Ability to perform less skilled aspects of mechanical and building trades and perform heavy manual labor.
Minimum 1 year of grounds maintenance experience.
