Position: Plant Operator III (SANDY CREEK EMPLOYEES ONLY)

Performs mid-level complex work. Work involves Maintaining and operating the plant system in a safe, effective and efficient manner, using technical expertise, practices and servicing required for plant equipment, laboratory techniques and safety procedures. Work under general supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement. Operator must be able to be scheduled for “on-call” rotation.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Work schedule is Monday – Thursday, 6:30 am to 4:00 pm and Friday, 6:30 am to 10:30 am. Work schedule is subject to change.
  • Inspects, troubleshoots, maintains and repairs equipment and systems and coordinates work with engineers, contractors, and other crafts.
  • Evaluates the operation, maintenance and repair of the plant, makes changes in flows and processes, and /or reports potential or actual problems with recommended solutions and other appropriate actions.
  • Oversee plant operations.
  • Order chemicals.
  • Conduct routine tests and instrument readings at regular intervals, record data.
  • Calibrate and monitor plant equipment daily, record data.
  • Clean and maintain filters, blowers, pumps and other mechanical equipment.
  • Clean and maintain other related plant facilities and grounds.
  • Collect samples for analysis, record data.
  • Perform calculations and prepare written reports.
  • Subject to after-hours call out for emergency situations including on call rotation and special events.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Required

Education and Experience
  • High School Graduation or its equivalent.
  • Minimum of five years of related work experience.
Required Certificates and Licenses
  • A Class B Surface Water Operator License.
  • Valid Driver’s License from TX or any other state.
  • Basic First Aid or the ability to obtain one within 9 months of the hire date.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Six or more years of related work experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to operate construction equipment such as backhoe, chainsaw, shovel, two-way radio, cell phone, computer, measuring devices, meters (pH, Dissolved O2, Chlorine).
  • Skill in treatment operations, regulatory requirements and effective management.
  • Ability to maintain appropriate licenses and certificates.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
  • Skill in operating assigned equipment, tools, and vehicles safely.
  • Ability to work hours other than the regular daytime schedule such as shift work, on call, or emergency response situations.
  • Skill and ability to analyze and prioritize multiple tasks using effective reasoning in a timely manner, analyze situations and adopt quick, effective reasonable courses of action.
  • Ability to write reports and perform complex mathematical calculations.
  • Must be able to wear city provided uniform and city issued personal protective equipment - steel-toed leather boots, steel-toed rubber boots, gloves, eye protection, head protection, safety vest, and ear protection.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds and push, pull, drag up to 150 pounds.

Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee works outdoors in extreme heat or cold temperature and during inclement weather; exposed to hazardous chemicals, dust fumes and loud noises. Frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
