Healthcare Facilities Maintenance Technician

Overview

Kansas City Orthopaedic Institute is a physician‑owned orthopedic hospital serving the Kansas City area for over 25 years. We are seeking a full‑time Facilities Maintenance Technician to join our growing organization. This position reports to the Director of Facilities Management. Healthcare experience is a plus, but we will train a motivated individual with an eye for detail and a commitment to service excellence.

The ability to multitask, work within a team or independently, and effective communication skills are essential. The position is full‑time, 40 hours per week. Weekend availability is a must; days off will vary, although the schedule is primarily Monday through Friday. Weekday hours are 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Excellent pay and benefits are available.

• Conduct routine and periodic inspections of equipment and systems on campus buildings and complete corresponding log sheets and other documentation to demonstrate compliance with regulatory requirements per NFPA, CMS, accrediting organizations, and other authorities.
• Perform repairs and preventive maintenance on equipment and systems, or coordinate with contracted service providers. Tasks include mechanical, HVAC, building automation, life safety, refrigeration systems, ice machines, dishwashers, plumbing, electrical and lighting, low voltage, medical gases, above‑ceiling maintenance, door hardware and card access systems, nurse call, televisions, beds and stretchers, furnishings, minor repairs to walls, floors and ceilings, and occasional grounds maintenance.
• Use strong communication skills in a fast‑paced environment to schedule work when convenient for customer departments and to provide status updates regarding various systems. Work well with groups to resolve issues.
• Identify and resolve problems in a timely manner by gathering and analyzing information. Develop quality alternative solutions.
• Assist in move management to relocate offices and equipment within or between buildings.
• Perform additional tasks as assigned to meet organizational needs.

• Technical training or degree, or trade certificate related to HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or electronics.
• Minimum of 3 years of work experience performing general building maintenance.
• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Computer proficiency (Microsoft Outlook, Word; some Excel experience).
• Fluent verbal and written English; ability to follow instructions and use a computerized work order system; ability to interpret blueprints.
• Physical capability to stand for extended periods, push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds without assistance; ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions; may include exposure to blood or bodily fluids.
• Familiarity with a variety of hand tools and test meters.
