Compensation: $15.50 USD per hour

Performs housekeeping and cleaning activities in assigned areas according to established standards. Supports the Village’s mission, values, and service/hospitality (PRIDE) expectations. Completes required training hours.

• Keeps premises of the John Knox Village property clean and orderly.
• Clears and prepares rooms or living areas after resident dismissal, transfer, move‑in, or move‑out.
• Washes beds and mattresses; replaces soiled linens, curtains, or privacy cubicle drapes.
• Maintains bathrooms, utility and storage rooms including inventory and replenishment of supplies; cleans and sanitizes equipment, furniture, and fixtures.
• Dusts furniture and equipment; polishes metalwork; washes windows, doors, and windowsills; empties wastebaskets; transports trash to proper bins or recycling areas.
• Polishes light fixtures, kitchen appliances, and other areas needing attention.
• Washes vents with detailed accuracy using toothbrushes and razor blades.
• Mops and vacuums floors and carpets to maintain clean walking areas.
• Transports cleaning disinfectants, vacuums, mops, small equipment and tools.
• May be assigned to any area of the Village, including but not limited to the Village Care Center, Valley View, Memory Care, resident units, common areas, clubhouses, fee‑for‑service, administrative offices, or any other area on the campus.
• Maintains checklists of completed work and reports necessary work orders to the supervisor; follows up on work orders requiring Maintenance.
• May help serve meals in the Main Dining Area if assigned to VCC Housekeeping.
• Travel to different job locations using a vehicle.
• Adheres to all safety regulations and requirements.
• Handles stress well and maintains positive workplace conduct with colleagues and customers.

Education: High school diploma or GED.

Licenses/Certifications:

• Valid driver’s license and proof of auto insurance;
  Class E or equivalent required for associates driving JKV vehicles.
• Associates may use personal vehicle to travel around campus.
• No additional licenses required for VCC Housekeeping.

Knowledge and

Skills:

• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, handbooks, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to communicate using simple sentences, paragraphs, and correspondence.
• Basic arithmetic skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with two‑digit numbers.
• Application of common‑sense understanding to carry out detailed instructions.

• Exposure to inside and outside environmental conditions; walking surfaces may be slick from moisture.
• Assistance may be required when cleaning homes for move‑ins/move‑outs with heavier windows.
• Exposure to noise, vibrations, fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.
• Work in close quarters, crawl spaces, small enclosed rooms, narrow aisles or passageways that may cause claustrophobia.
• Possible exposure to infectious diseases.
• Interaction with individuals with challenged mental capacities.
• May be asked to carry a pager.
• Assistance to other departments may be required in emergency situations.
