Loudoun County's Department of Parks, Recreation, and Community Service is seeking qualified applicants for a full‑time Maintenance Technician II. Under the overall guidance of the assigned supervisor, this role entails carrying out maintenance tasks both indoors and outdoors for the County. Responsibilities include executing preventive maintenance, operating and repairing tools, equipment, and vehicles, performing groundskeeping, and applying specialized turf care. Additionally, the position involves preparing fields for athletic events, responding to weather‑related incidents and facility emergencies, and conducting snow removal operations.

There may also be a requirement to perform specialized maintenance on swimming pools and their related equipment.

This role generally does not entail formal supervisory duties; however, it does involve overseeing the tasks performed by lower‑level staff, seasonal technicians, volunteers, and/or community service workers.

Responsibilities
  • Conducts safety inspections of the site in accordance with the procedures outlined in the preventive maintenance plan; verifies the Safety Data Sheet books.
  • Operates machinery, tools, vehicles, and equipment.
  • Aids in the preparation and dismantling of special events and tournaments; sets up tents, tables, chairs, supplies, equipment, and parking.
  • Performs outdoor maintenance.
  • Performs fundamental repairs on grounds maintenance machinery, including tractors, aerators, and mowers, according to the manufacturer's specifications; documents repair activities in the equipment maintenance history log; collaborates with mechanics and vendors for repairs as needed; and informs the supervisor when a unit requires repair.
  • May undertake the responsibilities of the supervisor during their absence.
  • May carry out additional critical job responsibilities pertinent to the specific role and departmental assignment.

Salary commensurate with experience.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent, preferably with coursework in semi‑skilled carpentry, basic trades, landscaping, or aquatics based on assigned area; two (2) years of related work experience in grounds maintenance and/or basic general maintenance or aquatics, preferably inclusive of some level of performance in a work leader capacity; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Playground Certification (PC) is preferred.
Additional Requirements

Must undergo pre‑employment criminal, credit, and DMV background checks. Valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Annual reviews of driving records may be conducted to ensure ongoing qualification. It is required to obtain or hold a CDL (Class

A) within six (6) months of being hired. Successful candidate holding a CDL must pass a pre‑employment drug and alcohol screen and comply with the Alcohol and Controlled Substance Testing Program as outlined by Loudoun County's Alcohol and Controlled Substance Testing Policy for Transportation Employees. First Aid/CPR certifications are required within 30 days of hire.
