Position: 26-614.B2 - Field Operator

Job Objective

Monitors and operates wells and associated surface equipment including pumps, natural gas compressors, pumping units, valves, tanks, and other vessels, and helps maintain a safe work environment for the company.

Job Responsibilities

Position is field‑based; employees must spend at least 90% of their time on site to support operational activities.

  • Gauges and records tank and gas meter readings.
  • Opens and closes valves and tank hatches.
  • Inspects equipment for safety problems, leaks, or wear and recommends repairs.
  • Procures necessary materials and supplies for daily tasks.
  • Reads automatic gauges at specified intervals to determine flow rates and tank contents.
  • Operates pumps and mobile telephone/radio.
  • Turns bleeder valves or lowers sample container into tank to obtain oil sample.
  • Retrieves and performs required tests for quality and integrity of product samples.
  • Maintains logs of meter readings, test results, and adjustments.
  • Obtains temperature readings by lowering thermometer into tanks.
  • Completes "Daily Production Sheets" and reports results by the daily deadline.
  • Completes "8‑Day Gauge Reports" with beginning and ending tank levels and reports results monthly.
  • Completes other daily records such as "Compressor/Dehy/Flare Reports," "Spill/Sheen/Tank Inspection Reports," and "Daily Pipeline Surveillance Reports" and submits results at month‑end.
  • Implements the company’s "Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasures Plan" (SPCC) as needed.
  • Reports leads or defective valves to supervisor.
  • Tightens connections with wrenches; greases and oils valves using grease gum and oil can.
  • Inspects pipelines, valves, and flanges to detect malfunctions such as loose connections and leaks.
  • Clamps seal around valves to secure tanks.
  • Records meter and pressure readings at gas wells.
  • Gauges tanks containing petroleum and natural gas byproducts such as condensate, oil, saltwater, or natural gasoline.
  • Starts pumps and opens valves to regulate flow of oil according to delivery schedules.
  • Shuts down equipment, following supervisor instructions, in case of an emergency.
  • May be required to work at multiple fields.
  • Adheres to the company’s values—integrity, ownership, urgency, alignment and innovation.
  • Supports the company vision and mission.
  • Monitors alarms and responds to alarms/pages 24 hours per day.

  • Available 24 hours per day (on call for questions, emergencies, weekend rotations, etc.).

Qualifications
  • Four (4) years minimum oilfield experience.
  • Preferred:
    Prior Hilcorp field experience.
  • Preferred:
    Prior CO(2) EOR production experience.
  • Requires less supervision in routine duties.
  • Demonstrates increasing understanding of how the oil/gas facility and plant work together from wells to sales lines.
  • Demonstrates ability to work unsupervised, anticipate and correct problems before they occur.
  • Demonstrates routine operation of the facility unsupervised while maintaining safety and accurate records.
  • Demonstrates ability to direct work and train lower‑rank employees.
  • Displays awareness of simultaneous activities at the job site on a routine basis.
  • Recognizes non‑standard conditions, notifies supervisory staff, and offers solutions.
  • Possesses basic math and mechanical skills.
  • Possesses basic computer skills.
