BUILDING SERVICES WORKER, LEAD
Position Summary:
The Building Services Worker Lead is a key position within Facilities Management Division’s Building Services unit. The Lead reports to a Manager and is responsible for day‑to‑day management of custodial operations within an assigned building or collection of buildings. The Lead supervises crews of 6 to 10 employees who perform care, cleaning, and minor maintenance of campus buildings and fixtures. The Lead communicates information and training material related to productivity, safety, and work performance, provides guidance to Building Service Workers, and works closely with other Leads to ensure seamless operations.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent and 5 years of related experience.
Location:
Athens, GA (Athens Area).
Work Schedule:
Monday-Friday 7:00 AM-4:00 PM; voluntary on call; essential worker; some nights and/or weekends may be required.

- Oversee and direct custodial operations for a crew of approximately 6 – 10 employees in assigned building(s).
- Provide emergency support as needed.
- Direct custodial cleaning and operations, including light bulb maintenance accessed from 8’ ladders.
- Focus on team performance, employee development, and overall work results.
- Ensure the quality of stakeholder experience and satisfaction.
- Ensure maximum efficiency and effectiveness of operations by reviewing work assignments, priorities, service programs, procedures, and routines.
- Stay current on professional best practices.
- Collaborate with manager, senior leadership and FMD HR on employee concerns and performance reviews.
- Coordinate with Training Group to provide training in custodial operations and workplace safety.
- Oversee ordering, stocking, and use of supplies, materials, cleaning chemicals within the assigned area.
- Ensure custodial equipment is used and maintained properly.
- Monitor employee routines and time for efficiency.
- Maintain relationships with stakeholders, meet regularly, resolve issues, and establish expectations.
- Thorough knowledge of custodial supplies & materials, cleaning equipment, products, techniques and industry standard.
- Thorough knowledge of the operation and care of custodial equipment, tools, and supplies common to the care of large facilities and campuses.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with stakeholders.
- Knowledge in coordinating, scheduling, and supervising work activities.
- Excellent leadership skills that promote employee development and accountability.
- Ability to identify and implement changes to increase efficiencies.
- Ability to type and be computer literate in the use of all Microsoft Office applications, proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook, and quickly adaptable on all internal UGA computer systems.
- Lift up to 40 lbs.
- Frequently bend, squat, lift, kneel, and work with hands above head.
- Work from 8’ ladders.
- Travel to buildings in area of responsibility.
- Move throughout buildings to perform building inspections.
