Overview
The Nebraska State Historical Society is hiring a dependable and motivated Entry‑Level Museum Maintenance Technician. This position focuses primarily on custodial and cleaning responsibilities while providing hands‑on training in general museum and facility maintenance. The role supports the museum’s mission by maintaining a professional appearance for visitors, staff, exhibits, and special events while building foundational maintenance skills.
Location:
Lincoln, NE | Salary: $16.52 per hour | Job ‑ (Applications closed on 06‑17‑2026).
- Routine grounds maintenance
- Custodial/janitorial or housekeeping work
- Apprentice‑level facility maintenance activities
- Uncomplicated building repair and maintenance, or grounds‑keeping work
- Assist maintenance staff with routine building and grounds maintenance tasks
- Help move equipment, furniture, and exhibit materials as needed
- Perform safe operation of hand tools and basic maintenance equipment
- Identify and report facility maintenance concerns or safety hazards promptly
- Other duties as assigned within the scope of the classification
- Decision‑making authority limited to selection of tools or equipment and organization of work tasks
- Learn basic maintenance skills including:
- Light plumbing repairs
- Basic electrical troubleshooting
- Painting and drywall repair
- HVAC filter replacement
- Preventative maintenance procedures
- Assist with facility inspections and work order completion
- No specific education, training, or experience required
- General knowledge of custodial work preferred
- Valid driver’s license or reliable transportation required
- Regular and reliable attendance required
- Basic knowledge of groundskeeping, building maintenance, tool and equipment safety, and cleaning methods
- Skill with hand and power tools, maintenance equipment, and basic computer use
- Ability to communicate clearly, follow instructions, read technical materials, operate cleaning equipment, and work safely at heights
