Job Description
  • Perform and oversee maintenance of school facilities including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and general building systems.
  • Respond promptly to work orders, emergency repairs, and routine service requests.
  • Lead and train facilities team members; assign tasks and monitor completion.
  • Track work orders and maintain maintenance logs.
  • Ensure all systems (lighting, heating, cooling, fire alarms, sprinklers, security) are inspected and in working order.
  • Develop, implement and monitor a preventative maintenance schedule for all buildings, grounds, and equipment.
  • Ensure adequate daily coverage for the cleaning and operation of school facilities by coordinating staff assignments and securing approval from the Director of Facilities, Security, & Transportation or designee.
  • Provide mentorship, safety training and technical guidance to facilities team members
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA, EPA, state and local codes/regulations.
  • Ensure safe handling and storage of chemicals, tools, and equipment.
  • Participate in School Safety Committee.
  • Oversee upkeep of school grounds including landscaping and snow removal.
  • Monitor building security: e.g. alarm calls, broken windows, etc.
  • Support facilities team as needed during absences, large-scale projects, events or emergencies.
  • Communicate effectively with central office administrators, school leadership, teachers and staff regrading facility needs and project updates.
  • Coordinate with contractors and vendors for specialized repairs and/or projects.
  • Other related duties as may be assigned by Director of Facilities, Security & Transportation or designee.

Nestled in northern Rhode Island, the Lincoln Public School District contains six schools. The four elementary schools
- Saylesville, Lonsdale, Central Lincoln, and Northern Lincoln - all four offer full day kindergarten. Northern Lincoln Elementary also offers a pre-school program. Lincoln also has one middle school and one high school. The total enrollment for Lincoln Public Schools (as of March 2023) remains steady at approximately 3,330 students. In August 2016, Lincoln High School was given a silver medal by US New & World Report's ranking of top high schools throughout the country.

This is an award only 10% of U.S. schools receive. Each of Lincoln’s four elementary schools received bronze medals in Rhode Island’s Healthier School Challenge contest, hosted by the United State Department of Agriculture's Food and Nutrition Services in 2015. The challenge recognizes outstanding nutrition and physical activity programs.

Job Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent;
    Associate's Degree in skilled trades preferred.
  • Technical certification or vocational training in facilities management, HVAC, plumbing, or electrical preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-6 years of experience in facility maintenance, with at least two years in a lead or supervisory role.
  • Experience in school or public facility setting preferred.
  • Excellent leadership and team coordination skills.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem solving and time management skills.
  • Strong knowledge of building systems, maintenance procedures and repair techniques.
  • Knowledge of electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems and ability to assist tradesmen as needed.
  • Advanced knowledge of tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment and materials used in general maintenance trades.
  • Valid driver's license; ability to operate maintenance vehicles and equipment.
  • Ability to read blueprints, technical manuals and schematics.
  • Ability to respond to after-hours emergencies.
  • Ability to lift, move or carry objects up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, operate power tools and work in varied environments (indoor/outdoor, hot/cold conditions) and perform physical tasks such as bending,…
