Job DescriptionLincoln Public Schools is seeking a Groundskeeper to provide students, staff, and the public a safe, sanitary, and attractive facility.
Essential Functions:
To provide students, staff, and the public a clean, safe, and well-maintained facility. This role involves daily cleaning, routine maintenance and support for school events and operations.
- 1.Keep buildings and premises, including entryways, sidewalks, driveways and play areas neat and clean at all times in accordance with established work schedules/checklists.
- 2.Cut grass around all school buildings.
- 3. Trim any hedges, shrubs, and trees.
- 4. Plant flowers, grass, tress, etc where necessary.
- 5. Rake leaves and grass cuttings.
- 6. Landscape where necessary at the direction of the Director of Facilities, Security & Transportation and/or Building Administrator.
- 7. Pick up litter around all schools, including entryways, sidewalks, driveways.
- 8. Operate both riding and push mowers.
- 9. Operate line marking machines.
- 10. Perform preventative maintenance on all equipment used.
- 11. Shovels, plows, and or sand walks, driveways, parking areas, and steps as necessary.
- 12. Reports major repairs needed promptly to Director of Facilities, Security & Transportation, Lead Maintenance, and Building Administrator.
- 13. Plant grass, fertilize, and cut to prescribed height.
- 14. Prepare all fields at the Elementary level for physical education.
- 15. Prepare all fields at the Secondary level for physical education, intramural, and interscholastic athletics.
- 16. Prepare, condition and maintain all athletic fields for practices and games at the direction of the Director of Facilities, Security & Transportation and/or Athletic Director.
- 17. Reconstruct pitching mound at the direction of Director of Facilities, Security & Transportation and/or Athletic Director.
- 18. Rake and grate infield, baseline, and home plate area, as needed.
- 19. Maintain track for usage by all track teams.
- 20. Repair and paint spectator and team benches as needed.
- 21. Repair and paint chain link fences as needed.
- 22. Assist systemwide maintenance crew with snow removal.
- 23. Immediately report any damage to school property to the Director of Facilities, Security & Transportation, Lead Maintenance, and Building Administrator.
- 24. Fill the position of Custodian Floater covering vacations, sick time and emergencies.
- 25. Perform all outside maintenance within the limits of ability.
- 26. Other related duties as may be assigned by Director of Facilities, Security & Transportation and/or Building Administrator.
This is a twelve (12) month position. Hourly rate, benefits, and hours of work are in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.

Nestled in northern Rhode Island, the Lincoln Public School District contains six schools. The four elementary schools – Saylesville, Lonsdale, Central Lincoln, and Northern Lincoln – all four offer full day kindergarten. Northern Lincoln Elementary also offers a pre-school program.
Lincoln also has one middle school and one high school. The total enrollment for Lincoln Public Schools (as of March 2023) remains steady at approximately 3,330 August 2016, Lincoln High School was given a silver medal by US New & World Report’s ranking of top high schools throughout the country. This is an award only 10% of U.S. schools receive.
Each of Lincoln’s four elementary schools received bronze medals in Rhode Island’s Healthier School Challenge contest, hosted by the United State Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Services in 2015. The challenge recognizes outstanding nutrition and physical activity programs.
