Senior Payroll & Accounting Specialist

Airoom Companies, LLC seeks a Senior Payroll & Accounting Specialist to manage end-to-end payroll and support core accounting for a leading Chicago-area design-build remodeling firm. In this role, you'll process multi-state payroll, maintain accurate records, reconcile accounts, and ensure compliance with labor, tax, and union rules common in construction. You'll collaborate with project managers and leadership on job costing, budgets, and reporting, helping connect field operations with the finance function in a quality-driven, collaborative culture.

Responsibilities

• Manage end-to-end, multi-state payroll processing for hourly and salaried staff
• Maintain accurate payroll records, deductions, and benefits in compliance with regulations
• Prepare and file payroll tax reports and support year-end W-2/1099 processes
• Perform account reconciliations and support month-end close activities
• Support construction job costing, coding labor and expenses to projects
• Collaborate with project managers on budgets, reporting, and cost analysis
• Ensure compliance with labor laws, union contracts, and certified payroll requirements
• Assist with financial reporting, audits, and internal control improvements
• Respond to employee payroll and benefits inquiries with timely resolution
• Identify process improvements to increase accuracy and efficiency in payroll and accounting
