Exempt Status: Non-Exempt

Supervisor: Environmental Services Director

Responsible for performing janitorial functions for office and common areas, in order to maintain an attractive, clean and comfortable environment to meet the needs of residents.

Job Duties:

(Other duties will be assigned as needed) Must be willing and able to do the following:

· Clean offices and common areas including meeting rooms, hallways, reception area, and laundry rooms:
Vacuum carpet. Mop/sweep tile and other hard surface flooring. Dust furniture and lamps. Clean mirrors and interior glass surfaces. Wipe window blinds. Remove cobwebs from light fixtures and wherever else present.

· Clean bathrooms:
Mop floor. Sanitize/clean toilet and sink. Add necessary paper supplies (toilet tissue, facial tissues, hand towels) Fill soap and other sanitary item dispensers. Wipe mirror.

• Clean Employee Break Room:
  Defrost refrigerator as scheduled. Wipe out refrigerator. Remove expired items.
• Wash 1st floor community windows inside and out as scheduled; at least biannually.
• Mop stairways as required.
• Trash rooms/areas
• Complete and submit maintenance slips as required to address maintenance issues.
• Maintain all housekeeping equipment and supplies in proper order.

High School diploma preferred or the equivalent in education, training and experience.

Ability to understand and follow instructions in English and communicate effectively.

Previous janitor experience preferred but not required.

Ability to lift 50 pounds.

Moderate to heavy physical effort 95% of the workday.

Must be able to stand and walk long distances up to 8 hours per day.

Must be able to stoop and work from a kneeling position, perform repetitive bending, reaching, and stretching.

Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. independently. Must be able to push and/or pull wheeled carts and equipment weighing up to 100 lbs. over tiled and carpeted surfaces over long distances.

Must be able to operate a vacuum, work in confined spaces around furniture and breakable objects, and have constant contact with residents.

May be exposed to communicable diseases including influenza, HIV and Hepatitis. May be exposed to unpleasant odors, high heat levels, and institutional cleaning chemicals.
