Utility Technician, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
This position is eligible for a Hiring Incentive up to $2000
JOB SUMMARYUnder direct supervision, the purpose of the position is to perform semi-skilled work in the installation, maintenance, and operation of the city’s water/wastewater utility systems, lines, lift stations, pump stations, and associated equipment. Employees in this class are engaged in the construction and repair of water and wastewater mains and attendant devices. Work includes connection of fittings, excavation for the installation and repair of lines, the testing and monitoring of water pressure, job-site restoration tasks, and all other water and wastewater utility related tasks.

High school diploma or GED; with six (6) months of previous experience that demonstrates ability to fulfill the physical requirements of the essential functions; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES- Must be bondable.
- Requires ability to acquire grade “D” water certification from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality within 12 months (1 year) of hire date.
- Requires ability to acquire a class “A” CDL - with Tanker Endorsement within 12 months (1 year) of hire date.
- Work Zone Safety Certification within 12 months (1 year) of hire date.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers and community.
- Good written and verbal communication skills are essential.
- Ability to establish and meet deadlines.
- Self motivated.
- Ability to establish and maintain good relationships with supervisors and other personnel.
- Demonstrate a willingness to perform duties in a team environment.
- Skills coordinating and managing multiple projects and/or assignments.
- Ability to arrange, compare, count, differentiate, measure and/or sort data and/or information. Includes judging whether readily observable functional, structural or compositional characteristics are similar to or divergent from prescribed standards, procedures or routines.
- Ability to exchange information for the purpose of obtaining information or clarifying details. Performs within well established policies, procedures and standards.
- Ability to operate and control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools and/or materials requiring complex and rapid adjustments.
- Ability to utilize a wide variety of reference data and information, such as work orders, maintenance instructions, installation procedures, and regulatory statements.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide; calculate decimals and percentages; utilize principles of basic algebra.
- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Involves semi-routine standardized work with some latitude for independent judgment concerning choices of action.
- Ability to exercise the judgment required in situations characterized by repetitive or short cycle operations covered by set procedures or sequences.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished by management in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
