PositionDescription
The hygiene monitor is responsible for providing a clean, sanitary, comfortable, orderly, and satisfying environment for clients, staff, volunteers, and the public who use the day/resource center. The hygiene monitor promotes sanitary conditions to help prevent the spread of infection at the facility while guests are using the showers and laundry services and works with clients to meet their basic needs.
EssentialFunctions
- Maintain the facility in a sanitary and infection‑free condition through washing, cleaning, and wiping of equipment and furnishings. Sweep and wet mop floors in hallways, bathrooms, and shower area. Clean basins, toilets, mirrors, and showers regularly.
- Take guest laundry; wash and dry guest laundry and return before the end of the day. Label all guest items.
- Sign guests up for laundry service and shower service. Maintain order with guests who are waiting for services.
- Assist guests who request donations of toiletry items.
- Handle cleaning solutions, chemicals, etc. and comply with all regulations, including OSHA, EPA, State Health Department.
- Clean showers, bathrooms, and laundry area throughout the day and before the end of the shift.
- Ensure appropriate forms are completed for laundry and showers.
- Work with volunteers on ordering supplies and volunteering in laundry and showers.
- Work with other members of the staff and volunteers while on shift.
- Undertake any other duties that may be required which are commensurate with the role.
- Stay informed of current local and national events, trends, and issues that impact Depaul USA’s work with the homeless.
- Strive continuously to develop the role in collaboration with the supervisor to ensure that all tasks are undertaken effectively and appropriately, meeting the strategic goals and objectives of Depaul USA.
- Participate in internal/external meetings as required and attend training events, conferences, and other functions as necessary. Participate in regular supervision and annual appraisal and help in identifying job‑related development and training needs.
- Ensure adherence to all Depaul USA policies and procedures, particularly those relating to Health and Safety, Safeguarding, Code of Practice, and Confidentiality.
- Contribute to the effective implementation of Depaul USA’s Equal Opportunities Policy as it affects both the organization and its work with this client group.
- Undertake the role professionally, always maintaining a high‑quality work standard and always working in accordance with the Vision, Mission, and Values of Depaul USA.
- Undertake any other duties that may be required which are commensurate with the role.
Heavy tasks may require lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds. Physical effort includes frequent walking, stooping, bending, reaching, standing, crawling, climbing, kneeling and sitting for long periods of time. At times may be required to use respiratory filtration and personal protection devices. Exposure to cleaning agents and chemicals.
Qualifications- High School Diploma or GED.
- At least one year of experience and a commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and supportive environment.
