Overview

North Wind Services (NWS) is a high performing, low-risk company with a history of contributing to client missions. NWS provides a wide range of technical services including environmental investigation and restoration, construction, demolition, hazardous waste management, public involvement, information management, health and safety, industrial hygiene, and emergency response/HAZMAT services. This role supports the National Ignition Facility and Photon Science (NIFPS) Directorate at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) in Livermore, CA.

As an NWS employee working at LLNL, you will complete day-to-day tasks with direction from LLNL technical personnel. Pay, benefits, and employment management are provided by NWS. Qualified applicants must be a US citizen, at least 18 years old, and able to meet pre-employment requirements including any required physicals, drug screens, and/or background investigations to satisfy clearance requirements from the Department of Energy.

Responsibilities
  • Perform general custodial/janitorial tasks and clean all cleanroom areas, including Class 100,000 to Class 100 clean rooms, following prescribed cleaning procedures.
  • Conduct precision wiping of equipment, furniture, or fixtures, removing particulate down to sub-micron size.
  • Support cleanroom areas with laundering of wipers and reusable materials; maintain cleanroom consumable stock levels.
  • Operate floor care equipment including mechanical scrubbers, wet and dry vacuums, floor finish applicators, high-speed polisher and burnishes.
  • Prepare standard reports such as daily task reports, work control documents, work orders, work permits and inventory checklists.
  • Operate instruments to evaluate cleanroom status (particle counters, particle swipe analysis) and perform measurement samples (swipes on volatile residue).
  • Demonstrate good customer service and effective communication with customers, coworkers, and facility personnel.
  • Maintain custodial/janitorial equipment in a clean, safe condition; ensure proper labeling, dilution, and use of all chemicals and adherence to environmental, safety, and health requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience with cleanroom cleaning procedures or similar specialized cleaning and sanitation environments.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in custodial tasks (sweeping, steam cleaning, vacuuming, mopping, scrubbing floors, walls, ceilings; trash removal).
  • Experience with floor care maintenance and operation of custodial/janitorial equipment and cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and meet work schedules; punctuality and reliability.
  • Strong customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills; ability to understand and follow written safety instructions and signage.
  • Basic computer skills (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) for timekeeping and reporting.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changes in assignment, shifts, overtime, weekends, and work in a team environment.
  • Ability to wear cleanroom garments, work at heights up to 65 feet with fall protection equipment, and operate HEPA vacuums and cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Cleanroom Custodian Certification and a valid California Driver's License.
Desired Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
  • Previous experience with chemical safety.
  • Knowledge of electrical hazards.
Special Requirements
  • Pre-Placement Medical Exam may be required.
  • Post-offer, pre-employment drug test may be required for external applicants.
  • Anticipated Government Clearance Level: Q; U.S. citizenship required. Employees cleared to L or Q levels are subject to random drug testing and federal background investigations for access to classified information.
