Compensation: $26.44 per hour/Manager Band

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Full-Time

Hours of Work: Monday – Friday;
Typical Business Hours. May be required to be on-call, including occasional evenings and weekends.


* If proven HVAC certification is verified, will be level V.

PRIMARY FUNCTION

The Maintenance Technician IV works under administrative supervision. This position is an experienced specialist responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all YWCA Kalamazoo commercial and residential facilities. As a Manager Band position, this role is expected to bring demonstrated prior professional experience and the ability to implement project management skills with facility projects and initiatives. The Maintenance Technician IV performs and coordinates a full range of preventative, routine, and emergency maintenance while taking ownership of assigned projects from planning through completion.

This is a non-supervisory role; however, the position may coordinate and lead small groups of volunteers (5-15) or temporary helpers in support of maintenance and facilities work.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent;
    Associate's degree in facilities management, construction management, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum 5–7 years of progressive professional experience in maintenance or facilities, including work at both commercial and residential properties.
  • Demonstrated experience leading a maintenance project, facilities initiative, or equivalent work — consistent with Manager Band expectations. This is a non-supervisory role.
  • Ability to coordinate and provide direction to small groups of volunteers or temporary helpers as needed.
  • Advanced working knowledge of electrical, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, and building systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills across complex, multi-system issues.
  • Ability to read blueprints, electrical diagrams, mechanical schematics, and applicable code requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Experience coordinating with external contractors, vendors, and utility providers.
  • Ability to lift up to 60 lbs. and perform sustained physical tasks including climbing, crawling, and working in confined or elevated spaces.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with people of diverse backgrounds; strong communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Proficiency in computerized maintenance management systems.
  • Must pass criminal, child abuse and neglect, and sex offender background checks.

Advanced Facility Maintenance & Repair
  • Perform and coordinate expert-level, multi-system maintenance and repair across all YWCA residential and commercial facilities.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and structural issues prior to reviewing the details with the director.
  • and lead a comprehensive preventative maintenance program to optimize facility performance and reduce emergency repair costs.
  • Interpret and apply blueprints, electrical diagrams, mechanical schematics, and applicable codes to guide installation and repair work.
  • Evaluate and recommend capital improvements, system upgrades, and deferred maintenance priorities to facility leadership.
