Outside Service Technician

Overview

Ashley has an immediate opening for an Outside Service Technician. The Outside Service Technician is primarily responsible for the repair of case goods, leather, and upholstery furniture. The role involves completing minor repairs on all types of product damage, including handling or damage that may occur with furniture purchased in customers’ homes. It is critical to have a customer‑centric mindset as the service is direct to the customer and our goal is to always give customers a world‑class experience.

$20 to $33 per hour

• Repairs with little guidance on all product types.
• Completes all repair types of entry level with additional skill requirements.
• Performs minor repair on top of surface of case pieces and tables.
• Performs solid color paper/side refinishes.
• Performs small corner damages that require rebuild.
• Has general understanding of spray booth setup and use.
• Performs advanced replacement part repairs.
• Communicates any maintenance of tools, parts and hardware needed, as well as keeping repair area/shop clean.
• Assists in inspecting damaged products and conveys if it can be repaired to like‑new conditions.
• Works with warehouse personnel on techniques of minor touch up on products during the inspection process.
• Documents and follows through on recurring product damages.
• Assists other technicians.
• Accurately reports situations that occur when repairs cannot be completed.
• Assesses damages to determine the most efficient way to repair them.
• Identifies damage, loss or surplus of goods and materials stored in the warehouse.

• Complies with safety regulations and maintains clean and orderly work areas.
• Maintains proper safety usage of all products that are used within the department.
• Maintains a clean and organized service vehicle, including required repair materials and supplies.
• Adheres to driving policy for company vehicles, including meeting annual MVR review requirements.
• Follows the planned route to ensure on‑time arrival for customer repairs.
• Safely operates hand and power hand tools, especially drills, impact drivers, and multi‑tools.
• Completes bench testing evaluations for regular validation of skills.

• High School Diploma.
• 1‑year practical work experience in furniture repair including upholstery, leather repairs, and wood refinishing OR similar experience with other materials and completing color matching.
• Read, understand, and write in the English language; additional languages beneficial.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
• Ability to learn in‑house computer programs.
• Valid Driver’s License and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record per company guidelines.

• Must have close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus to read reports, view computer screen, etc.
• Must be able to hear and understand speech to interact with others.
• Must be able to speak so that others will be able to understand.
• Will remain in a seated position for extended periods of time.
• Must be able to perform repetitive tasks with both hands to include keyboarding, handwriting, office/POS equipment and handheld equipment operation.
• Will remain on one’s feet in an upright position and move about on foot.
• Will bend, squat, stoop, kneel, crouch and reach at or above shoulder level.
• Will lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds and more with assistance.
• Will work predominantly in a private home or retail establishment; occasional work at warehouse locations.
• Potential exposure to oil, latex, and spray paint, household chemicals, biological odors, and household dusts; moderate office noise.
