OverviewWe are hiring technicians to document the response of birds to habitat treatments on Parker Mountain, Utah, with special emphasis on sage grouse and songbirds. Housing and work vehicles are provided. The positions will be from May 18 to August 14, 2026. Weekly hours will vary with weather, schedule, holidays, and other time off.
ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities will include songbird surveys (by sight and sound), deployment of autonomous recording units (ARUs), sage grouse pellet surveys, use of working dogs to detect sage grouse, capturing sage grouse, and tracking sage grouse using radio telemetry.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
- Valid driver's license to perform essential job responsibilities, such as driving university vehicles and transporting materials
- Available and willing to live on-site in provided housing
- Available and willing to work a variable schedule from May 18 to August 14, 2026
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience with fieldwork, bird identification, and radio telemetry

ADAEmployees work outside and will not be protected from weather conditions, including extreme cold and extreme heat for extended periods. The position requires considerable physical activity. Employees must be comfortable hiking alone outdoors. Employees must have sufficient strength to perform the duties and responsibilities, including heavy lifting (50 pounds) and/or pushing and pulling of heavy objects. Employees must adhere to safety precautions and may be required to use protective equipment.
Employee must be okay sharing housing with other employees.
