Custodian- Hrly​/Int POOL; DSA

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Associate Director, Custodial Services, the custodian will provide various custodial and housekeeping support services for on- and off-campus Housing, Residential Life & Auxiliaries (HRLAs) complexes. The incumbent will be responsible for the overall cleanliness of the assigned building, floors, facilities, foyers, stairwells, including but not limited to cleaning student rooms, common areas, lounges, kitchens and hallways;

clean and disinfect bathrooms; strip and wax floors; clean windows; move furniture from one area to another; wash concrete areas outside of the buildings; execute the delivery and pickup of guest-requested items to and from guest rooms; maintain carts and manage a constant supply of clean linens for Summer Conference programs; ensure closets are fully stocked; remove trash and dirty linens;

and perform other related duties as required.

• Perform Regular Custodial Duties: responsible for overall cleanliness of assigned building, floors, facilities, foyers, stairwells, including but not limited to cleaning student rooms, common areas, lounges, kitchens and hallways; clean and disinfect bathrooms; strip and wax floors; clean windows; move furniture; wash concrete areas outside of the buildings.
• Restorative Cleaning: detail clean and disinfect drinking fountains, countertops, washbasins, sinks, showers, bathtubs, urinals and toilet bowls, bathrooms; refill soap dispensers, paper towel dispensers, toilet tissue dispensers, seat cover and sanitary napkin dispensers; empty waste receptacles, walls, windows, closets, desks, beds, mattresses, light fixtures, etc.
• Housekeeping for Summer Conference, Conferences, & The Pointe: clean and straighten public and vending machine areas.
• Customer Service & Teamwork: provide excellent customer service to residents, staff, and campus community.

Housing & Residential Life

Hourly/intermittent on‑call temporary position. Successful candidates may be appointed for a few days and up to one (1) year depending on the assignment. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.

Custodian

The salary range for this classification is $19.97 to $21.19 per hour.

Ability to consistently report to work on time and be prepared to perform the duties of the position required. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and remain positive and respectful. Ability to work effectively and productively as part of a team, required. Experience working with a diverse group of individuals in a multicultural university environment, required. Working knowledge of standard safe work practices, required.

Ability to provide excellent customer service to the campus community, vendors, and other outside agencies. Skill in performing customer service in a polite and timely fashion: ability to identify customer needs and redirect them to the correct department; ability to relay customer requests and complaints accurately and appropriately; to describe and convey services provided by HRLA, required. Provide timely custodial services, including lifting, moving, and transporting chemicals and or equipment within buildings and work assignments throughout HRLA, required.

Ability to read labels on cleaning solutions, written directions and work schedules required. Ability to interact politely and courteously with university staff, faculty, and guests required. Working knowledge of fundamental custodial procedures required. Ability to clean and prepare guest rooms to establish HRLA standards for incoming guests required. Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non‑discrimination policies and procedures.
