Job Summary
Under the direction of the Associate Director, Custodial Services, the custodian will provide various custodial and housekeeping support services for on‑and off‑site Housing, Residential Life & Auxiliaries (HRLAs) complexes. Duties include the overall cleanliness of assigned buildings, floors, facilities, foyers, stairwells and common areas; cleaning student rooms, lounges, kitchens and hallways; disinfecting bathrooms; stripping and waxing floors; washing windows; moving furniture;
washing concrete areas; executing delivery and pickup of guest‑requested items; maintaining carts and a constant supply of clean linens for conference programs; managing trash and dirty linens; and performing high dusting, edging, scrubbing, and cleaning of desks as required. Tasks are performed in accordance with HRLA expectations of quality customer service and in a culturally sensitive, inclusive manner that enhances campus life, retention, and graduation rates.
- Perform regular custodial duties, including cleaning student rooms, common areas, lounges, kitchens, and hallways; disinfecting bathrooms; stripping and waxing floors; cleaning windows; moving furniture; washing concrete areas outside buildings.
- Restorative cleaning of drinking fountains, countertops, washbasins, sinks, showers, bathtubs, urinals, toilet bowls, bathrooms; refilling soap, paper towel, toilet tissue, and sanitary napkin dispensers; emptying waste receptacles, walls, windows, closets, desks, beds, mattresses, and light fixtures.
- Housekeeping for summer conferences, conferences, and The Pointe; cleaning and straightening public and vending machine areas.
- Provide excellent customer service to residents, staff, and the campus community; prioritize teamwork and cooperation.
Ability to consistently report to work on time and perform the duties required; establish and maintain cooperative, respectful relationships; work effectively as part of a team; experience with a diverse group of individuals in a multicultural university environment; knowledge of standard safe work practices; excellent customer service skills; ability to identify customer needs and route requests appropriately; ability to read labels on cleaning solutions, written directions, and work schedules;
interact politely with university staff, faculty, and guests; fundamental custodial procedure knowledge; prepare guest rooms to meet HRLA standards; communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus; follow university policies, procedures, and guidelines including safety, civility, information security, and non‑discrimination; contribute to a positive university experience.
Solid work history. Valid CA driver’s license required.
