Maintenance Lead

Summary

Description:

The Maintenance Lead supports the Maintenance Supervisor / Maintenance Manager with the daily operation of the Goodwill SOLAC Facilities Maintenance Department. This position helps lead maintenance technicians in the field, monitors service tickets, coordinates assigned work, assists with vendor communication, and completes hands-on repairs across retail stores and corporate facilities. This role is designed for a dependable, hands-on leader who knows the work, takes initiative after assigned tasks are complete, communicates clearly, asks questions when clarification is needed, and helps mentor team members while maintaining a high standard of accountability, safety, and quality.

Duties / Responsibilities:

Leadership & Daily Operations

  • Assist the Maintenance Supervisor / Manager with daily maintenance operations across assigned Goodwill SOLAC locations.
  • Lead, support, and mentor maintenance technicians in the field while continuing to perform hands-on maintenance work.
  • Monitor incoming service tickets and assist with prioritizing, assigning, and following up on work orders.
  • Ensure work orders are updated with clear notes, accurate status updates, and required completion photos.
  • Communicate professionally with store managers, department leaders, vendors, and maintenance team members.
  • Respond to urgent maintenance needs and support special projects when required.
  • Perform troubleshooting and repairs in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, lighting, doors, fixtures, equipment, general building maintenance, and carpentry as qualified.
  • Assist with vendor coordination, including scheduling, site access, scope clarification, progress follow-up, and verifying completed work.
  • Identify repair needs during site visits, preventative maintenance inspections, and routine facility checks.
  • Support preventative maintenance programs for HVAC units, lighting, plumbing, doors, equipment, and general facility conditions.
  • Help create material lists, parts requests, basic estimates, and project planning information as needed.
  • Promote safe work practices, proper PPE use, clean work areas, and a professional appearance at all job sites.

Physical Analysis:

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and work in indoor and outdoor conditions.
  • Ability to work on rooftops, in mechanical rooms, storage areas, restrooms, sales floors, and back-of-house areas.
  • Ability to safely operate maintenance tools, equipment, and vehicles as assigned.
  • Vibrations, hazards (physical), fumes, dust, and odors: occasionally.
  • Chemicals: occasionally.
  • Extreme cold, heat, wet or humid conditions: occasionally.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education/

Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on facilities maintenance experience required, preferably in a commercial, retail, or multi-site environment.
  • Working knowledge of at least one skilled trade such as HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, appliance repair, or general facilities maintenance.
  • Ability to troubleshoot repairs, complete assigned work with limited supervision, and document findings clearly.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, ladders, meters, and maintenance equipment.
  • Basic computer or mobile device skills for ticket updates, photos, emails, and team communication.

Desirable

Qualifications:

  • At least one trade certification is preferred.
  • EPA Universal 608 Certification is strongly preferred, especially for HVAC-related work.
  • Candidates with 5 or more years of strong maintenance experience may be considered when a trade certification is not currently held.
  • Valid driver license and clean driving record preferred.
  • HVAC troubleshooting and preventative maintenance experience.
  • Experience coordinating with outside vendors and following up on repair scopes.
  • Experience leading, coaching, or training maintenance technicians.
  • Experience working in retail, commercial, nonprofit, or multi-site facilities maintenance.
