Position Summary
The Maintenance Programs Specialist serves as a key technical and operational resource within the maintenance organization responsible for administering, evaluating, and continuously improving maintenance programs and processes supporting facility operations. The position works with a high degree of independence while serving as a subject matter resource to maintenance leadership regarding maintenance program effectiveness, compliance, performance improvement, and implementation of maintenance management principles.
The position provides technical expertise and practical application experience associated with maintenance management principles and requirements, including implementation of maintenance programs consistent with Department of Energy requirements and industry practices. The role independently evaluates maintenance program effectiveness, identifies process deficiencies, analyzes operational impacts, develops corrective actions, and advises maintenance leadership regarding program improvements and performance initiatives.
The position routinely applies independent judgment and technical expertise to analyze maintenance program issues, evaluate alternative solutions, interpret program requirements, resolve process challenges, and develop solutions relied upon by management to improve maintenance performance, regulatory compliance, and organizational effectiveness. This position then oversees solution implementation.
MajorDuties & Responsibilities
- Administer, evaluate, and continuously improve maintenance programs and processes supporting facility operations.
- Apply practical knowledge and experience with DOE maintenance requirements and maintenance management principles.
- Evaluate maintenance activities for compliance with DOE O 433.1B requirements and recommend process, procedural, and programmatic improvements to ensure effective implementation.
- Analyze maintenance processes, identify operational risks and deficiencies, and develop recommendations for process improvements and enhanced program effectiveness.
- Evaluate maintenance performance indicators, assess program effectiveness, and develop corrective actions, performance improvement initiatives, and process enhancements.
- Analyze maintenance performance data, identify trends, determine root causes of recurring issues, and develop actions to improve organizational performance.
- Develop, revise, and implement maintenance procedures, standards, and organizational processes to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and compliance.
- Lead in assessments and self-assessments, evaluate results, identify corrective actions, and monitor implementation of improvement initiatives.
- Serve as a technical advisor to maintenance leadership and provide recommendations regarding maintenance program performance, compliance, risk mitigation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support limited expediting of critical materials, equipment, or services.
- Oversee cross departmental development of maintenance performance metrics, interpret results, prepare management reports, and present recommendations based on performance trends and program evaluations.
Level 1: A bachelor's degree in the field of expertise or other closely related discipline; and at least one (1) year of relevant experience.
Level 2: A bachelor's degree in the field of expertise or other closely related discipline; and at least three (3) year of relevant experience.
Additional experience may substitute for the lack of education on a one-for-one year basis or vice versa.
Preferred Qualifications- Administering, evaluating, or improving maintenance programs within DOE, nuclear, utility, manufacturing, or other highly regulated environments.
- Experience implementing DOE O 433.1B maintenance programs.
- Experience with assessments, corrective actions, and performance improvement initiatives.
- Experience with Maximo, SAP, or equivalent CMMS systems.
