Work Control Planner
Work Control is a multidisciplinary group providing support to Facility Operations Directorates (FODs) for:
- Maintenance planning
- Scheduling
- Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) support
The Work Control team uses Integrated Work Management processes to plan, schedule, and execute work safely and securely. As a Work Control Planner, you will be responsible for developing and reviewing work packages that include:
- Time, labor, and material estimates
- Step-by-step work instructions
- Maintenance procedures
- Safety requirements
- Post-maintenance testing requirements
You will support operations, maintenance, construction, and modification activities involving mechanical, electrical, chemical, and radiological systems. This role also includes monitoring performance metrics, maintaining databases, supporting maintenance programs, and identifying process improvement opportunities.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop, review, and issue maintenance and modification work packages
- Prepare labor, material, and time estimates
- Create detailed work instructions and procedures
- Resolve work restraints and bring work packages to final closure
- Ensure compliance with work authorization requirements
- Develop and maintain maintenance policies and procedures
- Support maintenance program implementation and continuous improvement
- Provide training related to maintenance planning processes
- Develop, monitor, and validate performance metrics
- Audit performance data and reports
- Maintain databases and reporting tools
- Generate work control and maintenance reports
- Ensure compliance with safety, security, environmental, and regulatory requirements
- Support lockout/tagout (LOTO) and hazard control processes
- Promote safe work practices and stop work when unsafe conditions exist
Minimum qualifications include:
- Extensive experience interpreting mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical documents
- Strong knowledge of work hazards and safety practices, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, environmental and regulatory requirements, and work control and maintenance planning processes
- Experience with work control, materials management, and mechanical maintenance planning
- Ability to research and evaluate alternative solutions, solve complex planning issues, communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, mentor and train junior work control personnel
- Experience using CMMS/work management systems
- Ability to maintain and track work planning activities electronically
- Strong reporting and documentation skills
- Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and directly related experience
- High School Diploma required under DOE Order 426.2
Preferred qualifications include:
- Knowledge of laboratory work control and facility procedures
- Experience supporting nuclear facilities, nuclear maintenance planning, and nuclear construction planning
- Active Q Clearance
Essential physical requirements include:
- Ability to climb fixed ladders
Work location is 100% onsite in Los Alamos, New Mexico.
