Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Field Service Engineer II is responsible for installation, preventive maintenance, repair, and all other instrument services for MSD equipment in their assigned region. Extensive travel is expected within the territory and elsewhere as required.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:- Perform Installation, Operational, and Performance Qualification (IQOQPQ) of MSD instruments at customer sites.
- Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on MSD instruments in the field.
- Troubleshoot issues and remotely assist customers via phone and email. Perform unscheduled maintenance if necessary.
- Review and understand instrument logs to determine root cause of failures and develop written POAs for follow-up visits.
- Assist with training new hires and develop and deliver updated training packages as needed.
- Maintain documentation, including procedural manuals, workflows, and training manuals.
- Assist team members with more complex repairs; serve as a senior team member to review escalated cases.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for services rendered.
- Specific duties may vary depending on departmental requirements.
- Associate degree in an engineering discipline.
- Minimum 6 years of experience in field service.
- Experience in the life science drug discovery marketplace.
- Experience using basic hand tools and inspection equipment.
- Working knowledge of instrument repair with a strong understanding of mechanical & electronic dynamics.
- Thorough knowledge of ISO Standards and Good Manufacturing Practices.
- Logical problem solving and demonstrated ability to organize and advance project tasks in an orderly and structured manner.
- Excellent oral, written communication and interpersonal skills. Effectively communicate issues, problems, and results that impact schedules.
- Excellent organizational, planning, and time‑management skills with the ability to manage multiple and changing priorities while meeting deadlines and deliverables. Proficiency in Windows & MS Office.
- Proficiency in Salesforce or other similar CRM systems is a plus.
- Ability to effectively organize schedule and plan efficient travel between customer locations.
- Ability to independently complete assignments with minimal supervision.
- A natural curiosity to investigate and fix problems with instrumentation.
- Frequently required to sit and stand for long periods; occasionally walk, use hands and fingers to operate, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms.
- Required to move/lift up to 50 pounds; may occasionally assist in moving/lifting objects greater than 50 pounds but not to exceed 75 pounds.
This position requires up to 80% travel to customer sites up to five days a week.
COMPENSATION SUMMARYThe annual base salary for this position ranges from $88,100 to $134,400. This range is a general guideline; MSD may consider scope, responsibilities, market factors, and candidate qualifications. Employees may qualify for a discretionary or non‑discretionary bonus in addition to base salary. Bonuses aim to recognize individual performance and share in the Company’s success.
