Position SummaryUnder the direct supervision of the Grounds Supervisor, the Grounds Equipment Operator will maintain the cleanliness and upkeep of the hard surfaces on approximately 20 acres of Housing & Hospitality facilities. About 70% of the work time is spent operating drivable cleaning equipment such as mid‑size street sweeper, hard surface scrubbers, forklift, and high‑pressure washer. The remaining 30% involves sweeping, mopping, collecting and disposing of trash in public areas and providing courteous customer service.
The operator secures outside entry doors and reports suspicious activity to campus police or the supervisor. A valid California driver’s license is required, and the operator is responsible for routine maintenance of the equipment, including fuel and fluid levels.
UCLA provides a full pay range. Salary offers are based on budget, experience, skills, education, licensure, certifications and other considerations. Benefits start on day one.
Qualifications- 1–2 years of experience in basic janitorial and custodial procedures.
- English communication skills sufficient to read instructions, labels, and schedules, and to write basic form entries.
- Polite and courteous interaction with University staff, guests, and residents.
- Recognition of cleanliness standards in public areas.
- Skill in operating industrial and janitorial equipment such as hard surface scrubbers, steam cleaners, gas or electric bowers, and street sweepers.
- Proper use, control and inventory of equipment and supplies.
- Ability to work independently or with others as directed.
- Ability to work overtime, swing shifts, or weekends as needed.
- Physical ability to walk, stand, climb stairs and ladders, stoop, crouch, and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Valid California driver’s license.
- Must possess, upon hire, and maintain a valid California non‑commercial Class C driver’s license.
- Background check and Live Scan required prior to employment.
- Candidate must be 18 years or older.
- Pre‑placement physical examination required.
- Driving record must meet California DMV "Pull Notice System" standards.
- Back‑lifting exam required.
Friday through Tuesday, 4:00 am to 12:30 pm.
