Located in New Orleans, Fair Grounds operates a slot‑machine gaming facility and 13 off‑track betting parlors throughout Southeast Louisiana.
Job SummaryResponsible for the repair and upkeep of the property including barns, grandstand, office buildings, and grounds, under the direct supervision of the facilities supervisor or a higher‑level operation’s member. The employee will perform a variety of tasks in the maintenance, repair or operation of various equipment and facilities.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities- Perform or arrange for repairs, such as complete overhauls, replacement of defective valves, gaskets, bearings, pumps, compressors, pneumatic and air‑conditioning equipment.
- Monitor and inspect equipment, switches, valves, gauges, alarms, safety devices and meters to detect leaks or malfunctions, and to ensure that equipment operates efficiently and safely.
- Clean and lubricate equipment and make minor adjustments as needed using hand tools.
- Maintain daily logs of operation, maintenance, and safety activities, including test results, instrument readings and details of equipment malfunction and maintenance work.
- Monitor and inspect the building’s plumbing systems, making repairs or replacing water, sewer or waste lines, as part of daily maintenance activities.
- Check and test electrical systems to determine voltages, using voltage meters.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Skills And Abilities
- Must be 21 years or older.
- Must have a valid state driver’s license.
- Must hold a 1st or 2nd class City of New Orleans Stationary Engineer’s certification (Boiler and Air Conditioning).
- Must be able to obtain a racing license from the Louisiana Racing Commission.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to read, analyze and interpret common documentation, write and present information to management in a reasonable manner, respond to common inquiries or complaints from guests, members of staff or regulatory agencies, perform normal mathematical computations related to current duties, define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions, interpret an extensive variety of instructions and deal with several variables.
Physical Requirements & Working ConditionsWork involves lifting, walking, talking, hearing, bending, stooping, and climbing. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Office/casino environment; subject to outdoor temperature; exposed to smoke, bright lights and noise k environment consists of very non‑demanding surroundings with a low noise level. Occasionally work in extreme heat or cold conditions.
