OUR MISSION
The Fifth Louisiana Levee District’s primary purpose is maintaining levees along the Mississippi River. The district includes portions of East Carroll, Madison, Tensas and Concordia Parishes. The total length of the levee system is 355 miles, 213.8 miles of mainline levee and 93.1 miles of Red River backwater levee, 14.9 miles of back line levees and approximately 6.3 miles of spur levees.
The height and width of the Mississippi River Levee and Berm system within the Fifth Louisiana Levee District make it the largest Levee District in the state in total number of surface acres to maintain.
Responsible for operating and maintaining heavy construction and earth-moving equipment to support levee construction, inspection, repair, and flood-control operations. This role plays a hands‑on part in protecting communities and infrastructure by ensuring levee systems remain safe, functional, and resilient.
Key Competencies for Success- Proficiency in operating heavy equipment such as bulldozers, excavators, loaders, and graders
- Strong understanding of safety procedures, equipment maintenance, and job‑site protocols
- Ability to work effectively outdoors in varying weather and terrain conditions
- Dependability, attention to detail, and teamwork in a mission‑critical environment
- Willingness to respond during emergency or high‑water events when needed
Two years of experience in mobile equipment operations.

Job Duties- Operating one or more types of equipment, bulldozers, front end loaders, backhoes, road graders, and tractors with bushhogs along slope of levee
- Makes minor repairs and maintenance to equipment
Appointment Type: Probational - up to 24 months.
Career Progression Group: This position does not participate in a Career Progression Group.
Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
