To perform basic manual tasks in order to maintain the cleanliness, sanitary conditions, and appearance of state buildings, facilities, institutions, etc.

LEVEL OF WORK: Entry.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Close from a Custodian Supervisor

A. Other reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None.

LOCATION OF WORK: All state agencies.

JOB DISTINCTIONS: Differs from the Custodian 2 by the absence of experienced-level custodial tasks.

EXAMPLES BELOW ARE A BRIEF SAMPLE OF COMMON DUTIES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS JOB TITLE. NOT ALL POSSIBLE TASKS ARE INCLUDED.

• Cleans bathrooms, offices, hallways, and any other assigned areas by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and polishing.
• Empties and decontaminates trash containers; may assist in disposing of infectious waste.
• Moves, rearranges, and dusts furniture and fixtures.
• Learns to mix or blend cleaning solutions to proper concentrations as necessary for various tasks.
• Assists in setting up tables, chairs, and other furniture for special meetings, banquets, or other occasions.
• Washes blinds, windows, and walls with prescribed solutions.
• Operates vacuum for cleaning carpeted areas.
• Strips, decontaminates, and makes beds for patients, residents, students, etc.
• Reports needs for minor building and/or equipment repairs to a higher-level custodian.
• Washes, dries, folds, and issues clothing, linens, etc. as assigned.
• May perform basic grounds work by picking up trash, watering plants, etc.
