Job Description

EVALUATED BY: Lead Custodian or Principal/Assistant Principal

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Substitute (8 hours per day)

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Remain on the school premises during school hours and non-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and his/her attendance is required by the principal and/or supervisor(s).
  • Make minor building repairs such as touch up painting, changing light bulbs, ceiling tiles (accessible from a 6-ft ladder), tighten screws in tables, desk, door knobs, etc…
  • Follow your daily schedule and checklist to stay on task.
  • Clean offices, bathrooms, hallways, classrooms, and any other assigned areas such as gyms, stadiums, concession stands, and kitchens.
  • Sweep, vacuum, shampoo, mop, scrub, strip, wax and polish floor areas using industrial-sized mops, scrubbing/buffing machine, wet/dry vacuum, and/or other machines.
  • Clean windows, walls, doors, blinds, toilets, urinals etc. Also clean spills, blood, vomit, feces, and other bodily fluids.
  • Move, rearrange, dust, and polish furniture and fixtures.
  • Empty trash containers and supply new liners (trash bags) daily. Also, decontaminate trash containers as needed or directed by a supervisor.
  • Properly fill, use, and maintain direct supplied chemical dispensers in custodial closets. (Never use concentrated chemicals directly from containers)
  • Pick up trash and debris daily from grounds and parking areas.
  • Clear drains and catch basins of trash, debris, and leaves, to ensure proper drainage at your site. Clean gutters from a ladder and trim small shrubs and/or tree limbs as scheduled by a supervisor.
  • Hose or power wash exterior areas as needed.
  • Turn on/off lights and air conditioning/heating systems.
  • Maintain equipment by washing, cleaning, and storing properly.
  • Maintain the stadium facility including all buildings, grounds, athletic complexes, including all classrooms and locker room facilities, and any rooms or storage areas within the stadium complex and/or athletic department.
  • Safeguard all school board assets and equipment.
  • Assist Maintenance Technicians if asked by your principal or supervisor.
  • Follow summer cleaning directives from your supervisor.

    Note:

    this may include traveling to other school to perform custodial duties at other district schools or facilities.
  • Perform activities to aid in the conversation of water, electricity, and gas in accordance with the district's energy management program.
  • Keep an inventory of needed custodian supplies and reorder supplies from the Maintenance Department on a monthly basis.
  • Perform any other tasks as assigned by employee’s supervisor.
* PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • ATTENDANCE, PUNCTUALITY, AND SAFETY
  • Adhere to district guidelines relative to attendance. Clock in/out on district timeclock and utilize time when appropriate.
  • Employees are to notify their supervisors as early as possible about scheduling time off from work (e.g. doctor’s appointment, personal days etc.), whether paid or unpaid.
  • Regularly report to work on time and adhere to their workplace schedule.
  • Work additional hours assigned (i.e. faculty meeting, cluster meetings, professional development etc.) Attend and constructively participate in meetings and professional development activities. Use active listening skills and accept and recognize the value of the contribution of others.
  • Complete tasks in a safe manner as prescribed by the Safety Department or by the employee’s profession/craft.
  • Report any unsafe conditions or any incidents of injury or damage immediately to the appropriate official.
  • Maintain a neat and orderly work environment.
