Job Overview
This position is a general laborer working at a facility that loads and unloads barges and trucks. Duties are based on daily needs and may include cleaning and repair of barges.
Responsibilities- Fully participate in the company Safety Program and attend daily pre-shift meetings.
- Perform all duties in compliance with OSHA, company safety, and environmental regulations, wearing appropriate PPE.
- Perform deckhand responsibilities such as reading drafts, opening/closing lids, tying off barges.
- Perform barge loading duties to meet draft and quality requirements, overseeing deckhand(s) as needed.
- Transfer, load, and move grain to appropriate location or storage.
- Maintain grain quality during storage and transfer.
- Complete documentation timely, accurately, and legibly.
- General clean‑up, including sweeping, shoveling, washing, painting, and housekeeping.
- Perform preventative maintenance and/or repairs where applicable.
- Depending on facility, may be responsible for unloading barges, cleaning barges, moving product to storage, loading trucks using heavy equipment, loading rail, operating, monitoring, and shutting down dryer, or operating various heavy equipment.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience: Required – None. Preferred – 1 year working in an industrial environment with a dependable work record.

Ability to lift/push/pull 45 lbs. occasionally, climb, crouch, stoop, bend, squat frequently, stand and walk constantly, balance, kneel occasionally, walk on barge surface, work around deep water, grasp and reach frequently, understand and communicate verbally and in writing, work outside in extreme weather, climb stairs and ladders to significant heights, perform work in confined spaces and high dust levels, meet PFT and fit testing, use PPE, distinguish odors, work extended hours, weekend, holidays, alternate shifts.
Required to work rotating 12‑hour shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and/or extended hours (Convent, LA location only).
The work environment requires both indoor and outdoor work in heat, cold, wet, humid, dry, arid conditions with frequent use of personal protective equipment. Travel 5‑20% may be required at some facilities.
PayBase pay range: $17.50 – $20.00 per hour. Actual pay may vary.
