Job Summary / Basic Functions

This is work supervising custodian crews in maintaining the cleanliness, sanitary conditions and appearance of assigned LSUHSC buildings.

  • Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of institutional cleaning and disinfecting procedures.
  • Knowledge of operator service and use of commercial-grade housekeeping equipment.
  • Skill in performing institutional cleaning and disinfecting procedures.

  • Skill in applying supervisory principles and practices.
  • Ability to supervise people.
  • Ability to requisition, distribute and monitor use of supplies and materials.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to determine work priorities, assign work and insure proper completion of work assignments.
  • Ability to utilize problem solving techniques.

    Ability to understand and apply LSUHSC rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring bending, stopping, kneeling and walking significant distances between and within buildings on campus.
  • Ability to perform duties within extreme temperature ranges between the interiors and exteriors of the buildings.
  • Visual ability, corrected, to observe dangerous situations in the work area (such as wet floors) in order to redirect people to avoid injuries.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to communicate information effectively, in English, both verbally and in writing.
Other Information About the Position

Starting rate of pay is $17.18 per hour. There is also an additional $1 Longevity pay for hours worked only. Rate may be increased depending on applicants’ qualifications. Hours of operation are 6:00 am - 2:30 pm Monday - Friday.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Supervise the cleaning of campus buildings.
  • Conduct inspections of respective areas.
  • Special events, Plan, gives instruction on and inspects the completion.
  • Process payroll time sheets weekly.
  • Process leave requests daily.
  • Counsel employees for both outstanding and unsatisfactory job performance.
  • Complete annual performance reviews based strictly on expectations listed on the plans for the previous year.
  • Manage work orders.
  • Maintain building supplies inventory.
  • Assist other departments as needed; campus emergencies; work orders.

  • Type of experience required to perform the job:
    Custodial, housekeeping or food service work.
