Job Summary:

The Grounds Maintenance Worker helps maintain and repair school grounds to ensure they aresafe, clean, and well-kept. This includes mowing, minor repairs, and assisting other staff with various maintenance tasks across Jefferson Parish School System properties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Cut grass, clean fence lines, and maintain parking lots
• Change light bulbs, ballasts, and air filters
• Replace broken glass, repair doors, and clean out drains
• Assist with maintaining tools, equipment, and cleanliness of the work area
• Support senior staff with repairs and assigned projects
• Perform basic maintenance tasks independently when directed
• Operate power tools or equipment under supervision
• Respond to emergency maintenance calls as needed
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Experience in groundskeeping or general maintenance is preferred
• Valid Louisiana Driver’s License

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Basic knowledge of tools and equipment used in grounds and facility maintenance
• Ability to read, write, and follow oral and written instructions
• Ability to work well with others and follow directions
• Ability to comply with all safety procedures
• Muust be able to lift up to 100 lbs and frequently handle items up to 50 lbs
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, push, pull, and climb for extended periods

Physical Demands:

• Heavy lifting, pushing, pulling, climbing, kneeling, bending
• Standing and walking for long periods
• Working on ladders or scaffolding
• Repetitive use of hands and arms

Environmental Conditions:

• Outdoor and indoor work
• Exposure to extreme temperatures, humidity, dust, fumes, noise, and chemicals
• Work around moving machinery, vehicles, and in wet or greasy conditions
• May require specific visual abilities such as depth perception and color recognition
• Work with hands in water or solvents
