JOB SUMMARY:The Facilities Attendant is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, appearance, and general upkeep of the New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA), including public areas, restrooms, floors, windows, exterior areas, and the Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden. This position performs routine custodial and general maintenance duties and supports the setup and breakdown of special events and programs.
The Facilities Attendant plays an important role in maintaining a clean, safe, welcoming, and professional environment for NOMA visitors, staff, volunteers, and guests while helping protect the Museum's facilities and art collection.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:- Clean and maintain Museum restrooms, public areas, floors, glass, and other assigned spaces on a daily basis, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, disinfecting, and other routine cleaning duties.
- Maintain all restroom facilities by cleaning and disinfecting fixtures and surfaces, keeping counters and floors clean and dry, cleaning mirrors, removing trash, and ensuring supplies are properly stocked and organized.
- Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of the Sculpture Garden facilities and assigned exterior areas, including restrooms, walkways, and trash receptacles.
- Operate floor-care machines and other custodial equipment safely and properly in accordance with established procedures.
- Properly use and store cleaning products, chemicals, equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with established safety procedures and manufacturer instructions.
- Monitor Museum and assigned exterior areas throughout the workday and promptly address or report spills, trash, debris, maintenance concerns, and other conditions that may affect visitor or employee safety, cleanliness, or appearance.
- Coordinate with the Facilities Manager regarding daily assignments, projects, maintenance needs, work priorities, and cleaning supplies, materials, equipment, or repairs needed to properly maintain Museum facilities.
- Perform general maintenance duties and assist with other facility-related projects as assigned and within the scope of the position.
- Assist with the setup and breakdown of furniture, equipment, and other materials for Museum events, programs, meetings, and special functions.
- During Museum events and functions, maintain the cleanliness and appearance of Museum facilities, restrooms, and assigned exterior areas, including trash and debris removal and prompt cleanup of spills.
- Work effectively and safely in crowded, noisy, and fast-paced environments; manage multiple responsibilities; and adjust work priorities to accommodate scheduled activities and unexpected facility or operational needs.
- Maintain NOMA's standards of cleanliness, safety, service, professionalism, and visitor experience; exercise sound judgment in the best interests of NOMA, its visitors, staff, facilities, and art collection; and exercise appropriate care when working in galleries and other areas containing artwork or sensitive Museum property.
