Job Overview Under general supervision, this position maintains, repairs, installs, alters, and improves all heating, ventilation, and air conditioning and refrigeration systems in the Hospital. Assists in the operation of the shop and in the training of the HVAC apprentice. Assists supervisor by coordinating the work of an assigned group of employees.
Job Description
Minimum Qualifications:
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Completion a formal vocational training program in heating, ventilation, and refrigeration, or equivalent.
3. HVAC license.
4. EPA Universal certification.
5. Ten (10) years of related HVAC experience.
6. Valid Driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Fume Hood certification.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general nature of work and are not intended to be an all-inclusive list. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
1. Carries out demand call maintenance as directed to diagnose and rectify problems with equipment servicing operating rooms, patient rooms, clinical labs, research labs and animal facilities.
2. Diagnoses and rectifies problems within the following HVAC or refrigeration equipment systems:
Heating, ventilation, refrigeration, air conditioning systems and associated equipment such as dual duct systems, multi-zone units, electrical controls, pneumatic controls, steam coils, chilled water systems, self-contained heating and cooling units, exhaust systems, fume hoods, ice machines, ultra-low temp. Freezers, pumps, air compressors, ductwork, cooling towers and other miscellaneous equipment.
3. Troubleshoots HVAC equipment using computer-based software and determine level of involvement of Utility Supply Center and or Maintenance department.
4. Carries out all duties required for capital Projects including but not limited to: estimating, ordering stock, and scheduling.
5. Installs wide range of HVAC equipment including window, AC units, fan coils, ductwork, mixing boxes, package units, controls and other related equipment.
6. Assists supervisor by coordinating the work of an assigned group of employees.
7. Relays work instructions and distributes and monitors work.
8. Provides technical training and assistance.
9. Assists in ensuring employees are provided with appropriate resources.
10. Provides recommendations for the most efficient utilization of assigned personnel.
11. May provide employee performance information and report employee performance problems.
12. Responds to fire alarm as first responder.
13. Maintains collaborative, team relationships with peers and colleagues in order to effectively contribute to the working groups achievement of goals, and to help foster a positive work environment.
